Amazon Warehouse deal came through, great monitor.
5 out of 5 stars
Amazon Warehouse deal came through, great monitor.
Great monitor, I bought this monitor to replace my VA monitor which suffered from extreme black smearing and ghosting. Heard that IPS panels are much better when come to the ghosting problem, but there are only a few options for an IPS panel ultrawide 1440p in $300-$400 (AOC, MSI). The MSI one is 40 inch which is way too big for my desk and only run at 155hz. The AOC only run at 144hz. I really wanted this monitor because it was the right size and run at 180hz but $700 is out my price range. First, I decided to give the AOC a try as Amazon had a "Used - Very Good Condition" for $225. It arrived with 4 cracks on the screen. I returned it immediately. I read on reddit that used items from Amazon warehouse is really a gamble. I looked at the listing for this monitor again and saw a "Used - Acceptable" with no descriptions what so ever for $333. Less than half of the original price and since you can always return and get your money back within 30 days. I gave it another try with amazon warehouse used items. This time I got practically a new monitor. Immediately i plugged in and ran all the monitor test, no dead pixel, no bleeding, no uniformity problem. So I thought okay, there must be some cosmetic damages or something....So I looked hard and....nothing. I was so surprise. "Acceptable" is suppose to be worse than "Very Good" condition. So I am more than please with what i got. On to the monitor itself. I don't really know what to say other than that it is a great. It is a huge improvement from my VA monitor. No more black smearing, but still just a little bit of ghosting when running the UFO test...but you have to look hard to notice it. Overdrive setting on "Normal" is the best, setting it to "Extreme" and you will get overshoot. I learned that it run 144hz at stock. The advertised 180hz is an overclock setting. Some people say running your monitor at overclock setting will reduce its lifespan and some people say it doesn't. So it is a mix bag. Speaker on these are meh, but I got my own speaker and headset. The monitor stand on these are great. Very study and well built but i wanted to VESA mount it. And unlike other ACER monitors where there is a button to release the stand from the monitor, I was dumbfounded when come this monitor. I had no idea how to do it and no instruction in the manual either. Had to look up online for the instruction for another Acer monitor with the same stand (Acer predator x34). You had to force pry open the back plate with a flat head screw driver first to expose the four screws that hold stand in place. One thing to know is that IPS is not that great with display deep dark black color. That is the one thing that VA panel is great at. Black color on this panel appear like more of a dark grey, but this appearance of the dark grey for black only really noticeable in really dark room with no lighting. Another thing to mention is that USB hub on this monitor will use the USB C connection by default. I tried to use it with a USB B connection but it didn't work at first. I thought my cable was bad, but it turned that you need to manually select the connection in the monitor system menu setting. Overall, I really like this monitor.

I compared this monitor to the Alienware AW3418DW and a couple other LG 1440p monitors both at an electronics store and ended up ordering the Acer Pbmiiqphuzx and a non-gaming LG one to compare at home. For the $650 price point, this monitor is a great value for the combination of 100 hz refresh rate and USB-C enabled for a 1440p ultrawide. There are only a couple of options out there if you want an ultrawide that has those features (and 60+ hz refresh). The display is one of the best (better than the other 1440p LG ones I saw in person) I've seen on a 1440p monitor, color accurate, and I don't have any issues with dead pixels or excessive back-light bleed after ~ a week out of the box. Though my usage period isn't that long, I can confidently say this was the right one to purchase for a sub $700 monitor, especially for anyone who does even some light gaming. I had no issues getting 100 hz refresh rate (with USB 2.0 mode) with both my windows desktop and both of my Macbook pros. I'm not super concerned about warranties as most manufacturers suck to deal with anyways, so it's picking the "best of the worst" customer service. If you purchase with a Visa Signature credit card, you should be able to get an extension on Acer's warranty as well. Anything immediately wrong out of the box, you can easily return to Amazon. If something goes wrong out of warranty, at least you didn't spend $1000+ on the monitor, so overall I didn't have much to lose.

The Acer isn't necessarily the best option if you don't care at all about USB-C. However, if you swap between multiple computers often, and one of them is a newer laptop with USB-C ports, I would say it's a must-have feature, even more so than a 144 hz refresh rate or 4k display. I probably would have gotten either the Alienware AW3418DW or LG 34GN850 if USB-C didn't matter to me, but I absolutely wanted to avoid having multiple hubs in order to swap the display and my gaming peripherals that use receivers (bluetooth sucks) between a Macbook and Windows desktop. If having the absolute best image quality matters the most to you, or you know you will never game, then I would probably consider a 4k 32" or 34" monitor instead, since the 60 hz refresh won't be that noticeable during daily use. You'll still probably spend more than you would on this Acer though.

I've been using this for over a year now. DisplayPort works best, but supports HDMI as well. The ultrawide aspect is great, and the curvature isn't too strong. I can swap between HDMI and DP pretty easily with the side buttons. In terms of setup, I just needed to get the right cable, and double check my graphics card was aware of the HDR and high refresh rate. With that, works great. Great colors and high refresh rate. The HDR aspect is on the lower side, so if you want a REAL monitor with HDR, you probably will need to shell more money. But it's great for those trying it out.

Just take the (obvious) note that this is a LARGE monitor, make sure you have plenty of desk space for it and the stand.

I love this monitor. It's really bright, the colors pop and the refresh rate makes high FPS gaming really smooth. I have a Radeon 6900 XT and the Freesync Premium works a lot better than plain old Freesync on my prior monitor. And I got a really good one; no dead or stuck pixels, minimal back light bleed.
BUT... The monitor did not have any kind of protective film over the screen and it's got some scratch/scuff marks and other odd marks on the screen. I Can't see them when I am gaming unless I get an all black screen or if I am looking for them, but I know they are there, and they are driving me crazy. I don't know if all of these models come without a protective film, or if I got a funky one, but I am docking a star for it.

FOLLOWUP: About 2 months in. I find myself playing more and more using this monitor compared to my old dual 32" VA display. Great to look at, and any game that does 21:9 looks simply gorgeous. Performance is top notch. If I have any complaint, it is the fact my eyes are burning due to how bright it is...but, it does heat my office quite nicely. Note: Not hardware heat...but, the fact the screen is so bright that it has a warming effect on my face (LOL)!

I will not be able to go back to 1440p either. The visual quality and pixel speed is just the best. I cannot stop adoring this monitor...and hopefully the popularity will continue to help drive prices down!

    PREVIOUS REVIEW
I was leery about writing a review so soon...but, the quality of the monitor has me geeked. Coming from 2x 32" VA panels, I was not sure how I would feel with IPS. As well, what would it be like losing that extra screen (deep blacks on IPS would be another concern).

    But, I was wrong...

For one, I now have the desk space to bring my laptop onto the desk. As well, with the built in KVM feature, I can swap between my PC and Laptop and use the same devices (key / mouse) on the same screen.

Visually, after a bit of tweaking, this screen is so bright...and the blacks are great too. I turned on overdrive, and am running 165hz, which runs my games at top speed using my RTX3080.

Again, I worried about an early review, but also about how I would feel after time had passed on an IPS display. But, the last few days have been truly mind blowing...and the quality of this screen is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great feature packed monitor with USB C and high refresh rates.
Reviewed in Canada on September 18, 2020
Excellent monitor for the price. The ultrawide sweet spot imo is at the 100hz refresh rate as it's harder for most graphics cards to keep the frame rate above 100 in most AAA games these days. Plus the jump from 60->100hz is definitely more noticeable than 100->144.

IPS display provides excellent colour accuracy and the backlight bleed is minimal. Also with the fact that this monitor has USB C with power delivery means I can use it with my laptop for work and keep cable clutter down! One usb C cable provides power, video and USB hub functions which is amazing! Only gripe is that it's a bit more involved to switch inputs (have to click a menu and use the joystick to select another input and click again instead of the one button toggle found in other monitors).

    Other pros:
    - VESA mount (and if VESA mount is not needed the included stand is very stable)
    - LED underglows - if you like that kind of thing
    - Slim bezels
