- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2011I absolutely love Fresh Sweet Pineapple, as does the rest of my family. I had purchased several whole pineapples and went through the painstaking process of cutting it up.. miserable is what that is.
So, then we went to purchase the pre-cut pieces from our grocer and I'd find more and more pieces with the inedible core in the batch so we stopped buying it and gave up... until Del Monte published a coupon on coupons dot com with a deal for pineapples, buy two save $1.25, and our grocer had a sale on pineapples 2 for $2.50, we brought home 2 pineapples for $1.25!! I couldn't pass that up, was a fantastic deal!! but then I had to cut them up and I put that off until I figured out a better way to cut them up..
I went to amazon.com later that night and I looked at what my options were and found this little guy! I ordered it and with my 2 day shipping I got it in time to cut them both up..
It literally took a minute and a half to cut one of up, I was so excited! We can have fresh pineapple again!!!
It is actually very very neat how this works, it does the corkscrew type drive into the fruit slicing a perfect circular chunk out of the center of the pineapple, sliced into about 1/4 inch deep circles.
*You might want to do this in a clean sink, there is a lot of juice that will come out of your fruit*
1) First you'll slice the cap off the pineapple
2) Connect your handle to the top of the Slicer
3) Locate the Core and center the core cut out over the top of the core
4) Put Slight to moderate pressure and twist clockwise, fast or slow, doesn't matter, it will cut the same.
5) Once you've hit the bottom of the fruit you'll know, the sound will change, or you'll break through the bottom with your blade, continue to turn clockwise and pull rather than push and you'll pull out a perfectly circular hollow tube of pineapple. (The core and the Exterior of the pineapple will be left in the fruit in most cases, in a few cases you might end up removing the core as well, don't worry about that yet)
6) Take the Handle off the Cutter and place the dicer/wedger over the metal on top of a cutting board, or protected surface, otherwise the teeth on the bottom of the blade will cut into whatever you place it on
7) SPEED MATTERS HERE: Quickly and swiftly press down as hard as you're able on the dicer/wedger and it will cut your pieces into chunks - just like you buy in a can of pineapple.
Don't forget the remaining juice in the cored out fruit if you like that, if not you, maybe your kids or husband, my son jumped after it and so did my husband.
~ If your core didn't come out when you pulled it from the fruit then take a wooden spoon or other item and stick in the NOT JAGGED EDGE of the slicer and gently push out, not to fast as not to jam your hand into the end of even the unsharp end. Be extremely careful, this item is sharp and metal.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2012I'll keep this short. This thing rocks, and I'm going to quickly tell you why. I'm also going to give you a few tips (and clear up some misconceptions that I"ve read)
AWESOMENESS:
Looks cool!
Dishwasher safe....boom!
Metal teeth are way better than the plastic models you buy in the grocery store.
Gut a pineapple in like 60 seconds flat.
With a large pineapple, and a little practice, you can have AWESOME pineapple cups for your next luau party. Add your favorite tropical drink and a little straw...tropical boom!
If you do it right, leaves you with a glass of delicious pineapple juice. Drink straight, or add a little vodka.
Find a reason to use it when you have company and they will be impressed/curious/impressed & curious.
The wedger? Are you kidding me? I love having pineapple wedges and it's just too easy.
TIPS:
1. Fresher pineapples are better to use. The reason? As your pineapple sits on your counter or in your fridge, the little "scales" that make up the pineapple skin start to separate and they're not as water tight. When you start to slice into your pineapple, you'll lose delicious juice through these "holes". Fresher pineapples have a nice tight skin that will not do this nearly as much.
2. I read that the included wedger doesn't fit the slices. Umm...NOT TRUE. In fact, it fits while the slices are still coiled around the slicer!! I felt pretty special realizing that...ha ha. Now, the wedger is plastic unfortunately (would have been nice if it was metal and had a sharp side to it) but if you rock it back and forth, and work it down the slicer, you will be rewarded with beautiful professional pineapple chunks.
3. Before I get into slicing, after I cut the top off the pineapple I usually set the slicer next to the pineapple to gauge how far into the pineapple that the slicer is going to go. If I don't go all the way into bottom of the pineapple, I reap the benefits below.
4. To make sure you keep as much juice as possible, don't drill all the way into the bottom of the pinapple.
5. To make sure that the center core of the pinapple stays IN the pineapple, don't drill all the way into the bottom of the pineapple.
6. To make a cool pineapple glass as described above. First, make sure you start with large pinapples. Second, it may take some practice. Third, make sure you leave a decent amount of pineapple at the bottom...do not drill all the way down, and leave a good amount. It may be "wasted" pineapple, but you'll help to ensure that your cool glass doesn't spring a leak.
7. Yes, you MIGHT wind up with a little of the solid core in your pineapple slices. To minimize this as much as possible, make sure you line up the core as much as possible when starting the slicer. Make sure you're going in "straight"...and by that I mean parallel to the core. Sometimes the pineapple sits crooked, so you'll have to take that into account. YOu can also slightly adjust your cutting as you're going, which may help if you get off track.
Hope that helps. I love this slicer and I may start giving these away as gifts. It's the coolest thing you never new you needed.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2015Style: Set of 3Verified PurchaseI bought this for my husband as we have started purchasing pineapples from Costco and he seams to cut it differently every time. It takes a while and it is a mess. So as I was looking for another slicer of a different type, I saw that there was a pineapple slicer (not this one). I spent hours researching whether they worked or not, the durability, as well as if it would get most of the meat from the large Costco ones. This was the only one that had different blades to accommodate the different sizes. I figured for the price, it was worth trying.
I gave it to my husband for Christmas and he thought 'another gadget'. We had a pineapple that needed cut up so we tried it. He was amazed that it worked and got most of the meat. It was much faster and less messy, too. He also saw that you can use the shell for other things as it was pretty cool looking and intact.
I gave this 4 stars as it does seem cheap with the plastic and I'm not sure how long it will last. The other reason is that I used the slicer and it wasn't very sharp so it squished the juice out of a lot of them. I think I will manually cut them the next time.
However, I would definitely recommend this product and hope to use it for a long time!

5.0 out of 5 stars When is a gadget not really a gadget ....???
Style: Set of 3Verified Purchase... when it works as expected!!
I am a bit of a gadget freak, and having returned from Rhodes where Watermelon was part of the staple diet. I found some You Tube clips which gave some pretty inventive ways of using a Watermelon ... (No ... stop that!!) One of the clips showed a guy demonstrating this device to hollow out the WM and then do various things thereafter. The clip was from the US, there was a link to a US site and then through a little research I found myself back at Amazon UK. As always, the price in pounds was the same as in dollars - but hey - it's one of life's mysteries.
So, who am I to miss out on a gadget?? I ordered one of these and have used it on Watermelons as well as various other melons. It works every time and you're left with a waterproof container to serve up the jelly, punch or dessert that you have created.
As an afterthought, I decided to try it on a Pineapple .. and guess what!! It's perfect for rings or chunks. Additionally, with three cutter sizes it caters for pineapples from a relatively small size to pretty huge. I tend to buy medium pineapples from my local supermarket - these cost around £1 .. So for that I am pretty much assured that I get freshly extracted pineapple (plus juice) in whatever form I want.
Yes, I could manually cut the pineapple, and have done so often, but the results are variable in terms or how much flesh you lose and how long it takes to do. With the slicer, I now have this down to a fine art and I complete a pineapple in less than a minute without rushing!! Also, I don't need to worry about the core of the pineapple as this slices around the core and you extract just the flesh.
So for once .. I have a gadget that won't just fester at the back of the gadgets cupboard - or be consigned to the loft or garage (not great at throwing things out either!!) :) ..
Hope this helps .. It's worth having a look at the video.
There are other units available, but I particularly liked this one because it has three cutter rings, was made out of a good quality plastic which doesn't appear to suffer from the dishwasher - although it's a cinch to clean afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars A helpful kitchen gadget.
Style: J-HookVerified PurchaseI bought two, one for each of my children who keep coming round to borrow my old one. If you eat pineapples then get one of these as they make the peeling so much simpler. My only complaint is that my old one catered for three sizes of pineapples, this does just one size. I would buy the three-size one if they still made it. Definitely a good kitchen utensil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loooooooove it!
Style: GiftpackVerified PurchaseI often scoffed at people who bought these. I now realise I was simply stupid.
This is the greatest kitchen gadget- rather than peeling and coring a pineapple being a laborious task- you can complete the whole task of peeling, coring and chopping a pineapple in less than 5 minutes. It really is fantastic.
The Vacu vin 4-in-1 is compact so takes up minimal storage space. it is really easy to assemble and take apart and easy to clean- and it cust pineapple really easily- what more coudl you ask for.
If you like pineapple- buy one of these.
