Shaves like my 25-year-old Braun, fingernail to release head
5 out of 5 stars
Shaves like my 25-year-old Braun, fingernail to release head
My old Braun crapped out. It was more rectangular shaped and it had button releases on either side of the head to make it easy to remove. This razor is t-shaped, lighter, but it is awkward to remove the head as there are no release buttons. Rather, you need to get your fingernail in between to remove the head for cleaning. After a week's worth of removing the head I've finally got it down to where I feel comfortable removing it. Putting it back on is easy. Also, there is no built-in trimmer. My old Braun had a flip up trimmer built in whereas this one you remove the head and replace it with the included trimmer and snap it on. Kind of a pain. Otherwise I think the razor is great. Holds a great charge, smooth shave, and lightweight. UPDATE: since using shaver for 6 months I've put some pictures in demonstrating the removal and replacement of the head and of the trimmer. You need Strong fingernails to separate the heads from the razor itself. It's a bit inconvenient, but once you get used to it, it's really not that bad. The battery on this is great. Granted, I shave every 3 days, but the charge on this lasted for over 4 weeks. That would be at least 12 times on a single charge. Again, depending on the heaviness of your beard and frequency of shaving. I would not spend the extra money on the cleaning base with solution as that gets expensive as with my previous Braun razor. Now I just buy a can of lubricant spray meant for razors and a can of compressed air to clean out the razor head. Works great and it's cheap. I like the razor very much short of some of it's minor inconveniences.

So – the Braun Series 7 7071. First, it's recognizable as a Braun – very ergonomic, comfortable shape, rubberized “grippy" back, signature 3 stage head with two outer foils and a flat center cutter in a familiar Braun cassette. Cosmetically very similar, but that said, it's unlike any of the prior Series shavers that Braun has produced. Although touted as the “new" Series 7, it could be more accurately characterized as a “Series 10,” or a Series 8 if another shaver didn’t already occupy that slot (and the Series 8 is really just a modified 9). There is nothing else like it. The elevated 360 degree swiveling head and detachable trimmer are the signature features of this shaver.

Skipping to the bottom line if you want to bypass the details, it delivers a great shave, smooth and comfortable, as good as the older Series 7 (which was excellent) or the Series 9 (which some think is better). Whether it is better than either is completely subjective - for me, perhaps slightly – but the cutters and head (that actually provide the shave) are virtually identical to other Braun offerings, which by themselves are outstanding. This "360" design does seem to keep the foils and cutters aligned and in contact with your face better, with less effort. Advantages: it's cheaper than either shaver. From the Series 7, a little. From the Series 9, a lot. It's slightly faster – with the 360 head, fewer passes, easier to maneuver, and it’s lighter by more than 10 percent. Disadvantages: for some, detachable trimmer. And it does require “fiddling" with this attachment if you use a trimmer, rather than just raising or lowering an attached trimmer. No head lock - if you use this feature, it’s missing in this shaver.

    General specifications:
In size, somewhere between the old Series 7 and the Series 9, although closer to the 9. Slimmer than either, it weighs in at a svelte 6.6 oz, with the Series 7 at a hefty 7.8 oz and the Series 9 just behind at 7.7 oz, although you will note that the Series 9 is a considerably larger razor, with the extra weight of the old Series 7 accounted for by thicker plastic, more metal parts and a more robust build than either the 9 or the 7071.

The cassette head of the 7071 is actually wider (1") than the older Series 7 head (3/4"), with a wider flat cutter bar. It has a flatter profile as well, and there appear to be no replacements currently available, with replacement costs also unknown. Ergonomically, it feels perfectly balanced, like most of the Brauns. It's substantially plastic, also like all the newer Brauns (and most modern electrics), but the connecting struts for the swivel arrangement appear to be made of metal. There is a charging port in the end for either cord charging or in the provided cleaning station, and a full charge takes about an hour, with a 5 minute charge for one shave. The charge is reportedly good for 50 minutes. Unlike the Series 9 and earlier Brauns, the charging cord is straight rather than coiled, and fairly long. The shaver is submersible and can be used wet or dry, so cannot be used as a corded shaver, in common with the rest of its rechargeable wet/dry relatives.

The display is very basic, with a single vertical line indicating charge level - the shorter the line, the lower the charge. No percentages here. This is actually pretty functional, because I find I never pay much attention to my shavers that do display precise percentages – I generally charge them with every use at home, and when traveling as often as I can. The display also includes icons for cleaning required (two droplets), head replacement (a head shaped icon), and a red lock icon and charge cord icon (when the shaver is locked or charging). Like other Brauns, the shaver can be locked by holding down the power button for 3 seconds, and unlocked the same way. An info button below the main power button displays the status of the shaver when pressed. There is no speed adjustment like the older Series 7, being “automatically“ adjusted for beard thickness like the Series 9. Noise is about the same for shaver or cleaning station (although the absence of a fan makes the station completely silent when not cleaning).

    Accessories:
The cleaning station is also a departure from Braun's traditional cleaning stations. This station is actually closer in function and appearance to the Philips Norelco stations, with a vertical arm that locks in and charges the shaver, rather than just dropping the shaver into the station. Unlike the Norelco stations however, or the other Braun cleaning stations, you can't just charge the shaver in the station – when you press the button on the vertical arm (which you must to lock in the shaver) it begins a cleaning (and charging) cycle, and a second press disconnects the shaver from the charger. There are no icons or indicators at all on the cleaning station – just a blue light on the Start button at the top of the arm, which comes on when the shaver is cleaning or charging, and sequentially turns yellow, then red when the solution needs changing. A plus - like all Braun stations from the Series 7 on - it uses the same alcohol-based cleaning cartridges. The cleaning cycle takes about the same amount of time (less than 3 minutes), and unlike in the Series 7 or 9 stations, there is no active drying cycle - induction or fan – just “drip-dry.” Which, considering the cleaning solution is mostly alcohol, actually works pretty well.

Also unlike all the other Braun Series shavers, there us no built-in trimmer – the trimmer is an attachment that must be clicked on and off like the Norelco rotaries. A plus and a minus – easy to replace (presumably if made available), but an extra step and bother when shaving. This however follows the “new" Braun design of having multiple attachments for the shaver – face brush and beard trimmer for example – again very similar to Norelco's “system" design. It does seem to work slightly better as a trimmer than either the Braun built-in or detachable Norelco, and can be reversed for trimming beard or moustache.

And unique to this Braun, there is no head lock button or mechanism – the head swivels freely (mainly in the back-and-forth dimension of other Brauns, but also laterally and up and down, although more stiffly – hence the “360” designation). And unlike on other Brauns, there is no head release button – the head and other attachments are removed essentially by “yanking" them off and “snapping” them on, which you must do with each shave if you use the trimmer, and it does take a bit of force. Head and attachments appear to be firmly attached, but not what you may be accustomed to if you’re a prior Braun user, and wear on the swivel mechanism is likely a legitimate concern with this design. Time will tell. Overall, a good addition to Braun's Series lineup - not really a replacement for any of them, but an addition to, depending on what you want in a shaver. There are plenty of choices between them, and the "new" Series 7 adds another - and a good one. Highly recommended.

I've had this ~4 months. It. Is. Great. If you are looking for a nice shaver - this one is. It gives a great shave (at least as good as anything in this price range) & holds a charge for a _long_ time. I recharge once a month. I don't have all that much beard, but still...

I did get the one that has the cleaning reservoir, but I haven't felt the need to use the liquid cleaning yet. I just blow out the stubble dust every day & use the brush every week or two. At some point, I will use the liquid cleaner, but in the meantime, the holder is just a convenient place to store the shaver near my sink.

I can't imagine why anyone (or at least anyone with a modest amount of beard) would spend more for a shaver.

The first thing to know about this particular package is that it's, in essence, a bundle consisting of a modified 7020s shaver and an appliance dubbed Smart Cleaning Center S-5434 which also cleans & charges the shaver, hence the "cc" as part of its moniker. Incidentally, if the letter codes pique the🧠 cells; "s" indicates a charger & "cs" indicates a stand which one can safely place the shaver while charging.

    Other Features

    I. 360-degree Flex Head which theoretically follows the contours of the countenance no matter how it's shaped via two unique mounts this head can swivel up/down as well as left\right for the utmost comfort with minimal chafing skin sensitivity.
II. A tripartite shaving head comprising of a central trimmer which is engineered to keep the long flat hairs tame & includes a micro comb used to guide the hair towards the blades, bookended by a pair of foil cutters which facilitates haircutting for a clean shave @ the skin level. This is enclosed in a cassette cartridge, This package can also move freely as well.
III. Auto Sense Technology purports to adapt the shaver to the hair density on the face to try to deliver maximum hair cutting power.
IV. Easy Click Attachments that snap on/off to the shaver body as needed via standardized connection, useful to trim the beard, mustache & sideburns! Other models include specialized combs to enable to have the unique look desired. One version is the 7089cc which was the runner-up to the 7071cc with the whole enchilada packing, not just the sideburn trimmer, beard & stubble trimmers but including 3 more cleaning cartridges to go with the Smart Cleaning Center but I didn't care for the Atilla The Hun look, IMHO, gray beards & mustaches are unattractive & I don't have a double chin either! In addition, the 7089 is BLACK which I loathe!
    V. Cordless Wet or Dry capability even shaving cream @ the cost of not working while working connected via an old-school outlet.

The 7071cc has a lithium-ion polymer battery that charges in one hour which provides 50 minutes of shaving which gives me between 2.5-3 weeks of shaving. there's also a 5-minute quick shave opt n as well as the ability to run on voltages ranging from 110-240v. & either 50-60Hz making this shaver the consummate🌏 trekker, provided one has the appropriate local outlet adapter packed in the suitcase.
Since the 7071 is exclusive to the 🇺🇲 and 🇨🇦 it's furnished with an American outlet.

    Build Quality & Ergonomics

I feel that while earlier Braun series 7s gave a much closer & better shave, they are homely, while the present ones are comely especially the 7071's matte silver-gray, black body accented by a chrome-like ring below the head & cartridge border is pretty for a shaver!
The body is plastic on the bottom & middle girdled by a dimpled rubble-like substance also along the middle to the top rear of the shaver to promote grippiness. The power switch in the front controls the status icons. switching it on will light up the battery level travel lock & cleaning reminder. The travel lock is activated/deactivated by pressing the button for 3 seconds.
The shaver's rear is completely naked. also the thinner body & low weight contributes to the lack of handling issues concerning the 7071 and its operation.
Unlike some critics who may opine about the lack of a button to release the cartridge head before its replacement 18 months later or for routine cleaning/lubricating the button could be the reason on loses either the shaver or the cartridges in my opinion, snapping it on & off is much preferable to the mechanism's malfunctioning to the detriment of the shaver or cartridge. & even if it's shekel saving, it's still markedly better than what I endured replacing the cartridge on the Norelco 5560/81 by disassembling the blue "O" ring & reinstalling each blade piece by piece as if it was an intricate puzzle in reverse which is a pain in the proverbial tuchas.
Perhaps I'm not a power user as the critics might be but I had no problems with the agility because I adapted to the shaver.

Included accessories with The Braun 7071cc

    1. Smart Care Center S-5434, 2. One CCR Cartridge, 3. Charging Cord, 4. Beard Trimmer Attachment, 5. Cleaning Brush, 6. Travel Case, 7. Warranty Card & User "Manual"

I concur with the consensus, save the Travel Case, a pretty good deal
The travel case was way too small, I could only fit the shaver with the trimming attachment sticking out, an ill fit! & Forget about toting about the charging cord, that got booted from the case! I had to get a bigger case just to carry everything! I'm glad I didn't get the 7089, Even with the bigger case I still would not be able to carry all the hardware. The critic dislikes the operational manual I had no problem comprehending it, unlike the Travel case!

    Battery Longevity

I agree with Braun's assessment about the length of the batteries; Even with the protracted shaving sessions, I get 3 weeks per charge. I also appreciate the charge gauge on this Series 7 shaver, which is better than the dots shown on the lesser shavers & is only surpassed by the digital ones on the Series 9 models.

    Shaver Performance

Because I was trying to move up from a relatively cheap($100) level shaver, I expected a pragmatic compromise between the entry-level cutters & the >$300 state-of-the-art pinnacles which rival straight-edged old school razors I have a satisfying experience I never have any problems with foils getting "quite warm" I did note that it was the lubricant spray that I use instead of the cleaning solution for it as well as no tugging or any other issues. In addition, to lubbing the shaver I also rinse & air dry the shaver as well. The noise level was par for the course. Since I had atrocious luck with sideburn trimmers I only used it once, I had better luck with the sideburns by holding the shaver vertically going up & down the sideburn section.

    Cleaning & Maintenance

Alas, Even though it was the Smart Care Center was the reason why I selected the 7170cc in the end it was one of the weakest links along with the aforementioned travel case.
It looks like it was designed by dummkopfs, reminiscent of a 🦒 meaning it's impossible to run in the cubicle of a bathroom here. I would have no problem running it on the dresser top in the bathroom at the old place in addition the solution leaked everywhere & the fumes were a fire risk. This is on top of the omission of the three cleaning modes, the drying fan,
meaning there's merely a tri-colored ring that indicates both the level & freshness of the cleaning solution, it glows blue when it's both full & fresh, yellow when the solution gets low or dirty meaning one can only use it a few more times & red when one has to replace the cartridge.

    Conclusion

This is a pretty good shaver for the price as far as getting a decent shave the next step up from the entry-level models. I'm thrilled being over the moon & back again about this Braun 7071cc as such I will do the best I can to keep it in as good shape for as long as possible to the best of my finances & ability!

    I absolutely love this shaver
I transitioned from the philips shavers ( which i have used for about a decade ) because i was tired of the burning feeling on my skin after the shave.
The braun shaver is way superior in every aspect.

I bought this razor for some travelling. I haven't had an electric shaver in many years , but I really do like this one. This is what I've found that may be helpful to others.
    - Its definitely a daily use razor. When I first used it I was a little discouraged as I hadn't shaved in a few days. But using it daily it does an excellent job. My wife is happy with that, she's been on my case to shave more often.
    - the smartcare center, it's good idea, it works, but it takes up a bit of space And with a bit of manual cleaning and the razor works fine without using the smartcare center
    - I really like the fact that the power cord can be unplugged from the care center and plugged directly into the razor, it's totally portable that way.
    - the battery life is good. I've been using it daily for a week without a recharge.
I would recommend it to others. I would also but one again.
