    So nice

    So nice
Screen I really love going through social media watching YouTube videos and texting, I’m texting way more than I did in the past 5 years and the onscreen keyboard is so great to use. One thing I do want to complain about is that the blue light that this tablet outputs must be very high because the day I started using this tablet I found it way harder to fall asleep. Be sure to turn on Night Shift to get some good hours of Zzzz. Besides that the screen is great and in my experience it’s the perfect size for using it as a tablet, if you’re going to use it more for a laptop get the big IPad Pro. Battery This is going to be short. The battery is very great, it has a 7606mAh battery and it goes for days without a charge. I don’t play any games on it but I do use it as a laptop for college and it still does very great. The 60Hz screen must really help battery life because this tablet with very heavy usage can go for about 3 days until it dies. If you are worried about battery life don’t be because it’s great. Processing power To help you understand this has the same A14 Bionic as the iPhone 12, it’s crazy fast. This will handle any game, college work, photo editing anything you can think of. It does only have 4GB of ram but it doesn’t seem to slow it down in any way. With the amount of power this thing has it will still be fast 3 years from now. To make this short I’m more worried about the world ending than this tablet being slow in the next few years. Connectivity Connecting to my iPhone XS was super easy and both work together so seamlessly like I can’t even explain it. I haven’t had any issues connecting to my speakers, keyboard, WiFi router, texting (just so you know your iPhone has to be on to be texting from your tablet), everything works great. I used to have issues with my S4 connecting to my speakers and issues connecting to my WiFi router with my laptops and it makes me very happy to see that so far I haven’t had any issues with this tablet.

TLDR: This is the best choice for someone new to the iPad line or wanting to upgrade from an old model. It supports the same, second-gen Apple Pencil as the top of the line iPad Pro, while a unique combination of Touch ID and slim bezels by moving the fingerprint sensor to the top button. And, its got a USB-C port and Wi-Fi 6 for easier connectivity.

Let's take a look at where the Air sits in comparison to the rest of the iPad line--in other words, why pay more to get the Air instead of the basic iPad? As a quick recap, Apple's current line of iPads is divided into four different categories: iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Air (this product), and iPad Pro.

The iPad and iPad mini feature the traditional, circular home button with Touch ID sensor inside (similar to a blown-up version of the iPhone 7/8/SE), and they have fairly large bezels (this is especially bad on the size-conscious Mini). These models have older generation CPUs and only support the first-generation Apple Pencil. This version of the Pencil has an easy-to-lose cap covering a Lightning port for charging it (which requires an adapter, or awkwardly plugging into into the bottom of your iPad). It's completely cylindrical and will easily roll of a desk. These cheaper models also don't support the Magic Keyboard, which allows your iPad to "levitate" above the keys; they only support a simpler Smart Keyboard where the keys and iPad screen come together at the hinge.

With the Air, you get the same Magic Keyboard as is available for the Pro--and the same second generation Apple Pencil, which supports double-tap (ex to change pencil to eraser tool) and magnetically mounts and charges on the side of your iPad, rather than awkwardly sticking out the bottom.

By upgrading to the Air (this model), you get a slightly larger screen (10.9" vs 10.2", thanks to the smaller bezels). And, the screen improves in quality as well as size. The Air has a fully laminated display, which means there's no air gap between the screen and the glass--preventing reflections and the hollow sound when you tap on the screen. The downside is that breaking the front glass is a more expensive repair--that's why the school-friendly base model iPad doesn't include this feature. The Air also includes True Tone and wide color, which makes the display look more vibrant by adapting to the lighting conditions around you.

You also get much better connectivity with the Air. You'll get the future-proof WiFi 6, which is just starting to hit the market, and a USB-C port that gives you more charging flexibility and lets you plug in hard drives, SSDs, SD cards, cameras, and monitors with an inexpensive USB-C hub instead of the pricey Lightning to Camera adapter required on older models. For those who haven't used iPad in a while, the latest iPadOS actually supports plugging in an external drive and browsing the files on it without any extra software, and that's a lot easier to do on the Air. If you have a Mac, Surface, or other recent computer, you're already familiar with what USB-C can do.

Last but certainly not least, the iPad Air has the same A14 chip found in the latest iPhone 12 and 12 Pro lines. The basic iPad has the two and a half year old A12 chip instead. And, the base iPad has an atrocious 1.2MP front camera, which is hardly appropriate for today's Zoom-centric world.

What are some reasons you might want to get the Pro instead of Air? Both look a lot alike they have the ultra-slim, black bezels (similar to a blown up iPhone X or later, minus the notch). But the iPad Pro also has an enormous 12.9" option, which comes with Apple's best in class Super Retina XDR display technology--easily the best display on any tablet out there. This is only on the 12.9"--so yet another reason to stick with the Air if you want the 11" size--and it is similar to the display of the iPhone 12 or Apple's infamously expensive Pro Display XDR monitor. Unlike the iPhone, both sizes of the Pro come with a 120Hz display (refresh rate automatically switches from 24, 60, and 120 Hz based on the content you are viewing), which Apple calls ProMotion.

Speaking of the 12.9", my one complaint with the Air and the 11" Pro is that they don't make very good use of the much larger screen space for the keyboard. They allow you to swipe down on the oversized letter keys to enter numbers, whereas the Pro actually displays a separate number row above the letter keys, like a real keyboard. That said, if this bugs you too, you may as well just get a Magic Keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard and use that.

Both sizes of the Pro also have a better camera--a 12MP wide and 10MP ultra wide lens plus flash, similar to an iPhone 12. The Air, on the other hand, has the 12MP wide camera but no flash. Hardly anyone takes serious pictures on an iPad--but if you do, I recommend checking out the Halide pro camera app which was just redesigned for iPad last week. The front camera is also improved (12MP with ultra wide view on the Pro, and 7MP on the Air). The Pros also have USB4/Thunderbolt support for ultra-fast external SSD support, and they have the same M1 processor used on Macs. You can configure them with up to 2TB internal storage, vs only 256GB on the Air. I've never bought a cellular iPad (preferring to use the personal hotspot feature on my iPhone instead), but if you are looking at one, the Pro might make more sense because it comes with 5G support, similar to the iPhone 12.

In conclusion, for most people this iPad Air offers everything you need in a future-proof package and great price point. For those who want it all, get the iPad Pro 12.9" (think twice about the 11" Pro since you're paying a premium price and missing the best-in class display of the 12.9").

My entire life I had been a Windows and Linux user. I never gave Apple much of a chance due to the prices of everything. As I began to pull more and more away from Windows and Google (I despise them both), I gave Apple a shot with this iPad Air 4 not long after it came out… it was one of the best purchases of my life. I use this tablet on a fairly regular basis, with multiple use cases. It’s absolutely wonderful. Where to start… I have used many tablets over the years. I got to experience the original iPad and it was a nice device, but with Android devices being cheaper I used those. The quality was definitely paltry in comparison, and some outright dubious to the point that I find it criminal that some of them were sold in places like Wal-Mart. Out of all the Android tablets I had used, only the Samsung ones were viable, but they always felt lacking to me. In an effort to shift away from the leach that is Google, when it came time to replace my old tablet I decided to give an iPad a shot. I had by this time now been working on Macs for about three years on and off (I do Tech Support and have had to diagnose and fix many Macs in that time, as well as tablets and phones).

Upon receiving my tablet, I set it up with the Apple Pencil, a tempered glass screen protector and a cheap off brand keyboard case + trackpad as the Magic Keyboard is well beyond my affordability. Immediately it had become a stable device in my life. Even though I use a laptop predominately, I - as liken to this instance - am using my laptop for larger media consumption and for other tasks, while this iPad allows me to do tasks on the side without ruining the large screen experience. Granted it has also been useful for far more than just that, as its far more portable than by bulky laptop and can do quite a lot that my computer can. It doesn’t fully replace my laptop, that would require a MacBook or a Mac Mini (both of which are unfortunately far outside my price range).

Since getting this tablet, I have gotten back into drawing, sketching, writing, and more; things I had not done in many years. The portability is a huge plus, but its power is remarkable for such a small device. With the A14 Bionic chip, there is not one thing I threw at this tablet that it could bot handle with ease. I imagine the M1 iPad Air 5 is far more efficient, but even still, this tablet has lasted me going on two years with many more to come. I do not see any slowdown as the tablet has been as smooth and crisp as it was since getting it out the box. Watching videos on this device is stunning with its crisp display, and the audio is full and has plenty in terms of volume. The 256gb storage capacity is more than plenty for my needs, though if needed the usb-c port allows for many expansion and peripheral opportunities. It’s lightweight, sleek, powerful and quite the looker.

I have never used a tablet as nice as this one, and it feels premium when you hold it in your hands, something even Samsung tablets cannot properly replicate. This device has convinced me that we are not far off from being able to use them as a full laptop/desktop replacement for most users. Actually, as the average person uses computers for things like news, media consumption, email and the like, most people could probably get away with an iPad and a keyboard case. I still require a full computer, however. Though I use my iPad Air 4 almost daily, and will continue to do so until it comes time to upgrade in probably another two years. In fact, its impressed me so much, if I had the financial ability, I would throw out my current cell phone and laptop and get an iPhone and a MacBook or an iMac Mini. One can dream…

The iPad itself is good. The issue I have is with the charger. I purchased the item in Australia and I was sent a USA charger which meant I was unable to charge the iPad. I contacted the seller who advised that in the small print under the model number, a bunch of letters and numbers means it’s from the US! Seriously, as if a reasonable person would know that. From reading the reviews after the fact, I can see this is a repeat reported issue. They should be more up front with this rather than trying to hide it. When I emailed them I was offered an adapter and the picture attached is what I received!
So, the small amount of money I received on this iPad was spent on purchasing a genuine Apple charger for Australia! My advice, would be to enquire first and ensure you are receiving a product that you can actually use immediately in Australia.
