Tips for you and your Dog - BarkBath FAQ's

What if my dog is afraid of the sound?

BarkBath sounds similar to a vacuum and some dogs might not like this. So to help your pet feel more comfortable with BarkBath, we have 3 features included:

1) A 13 foot hose to allow you to move the bath unit away from your pet.

2) A microfiber sound dampening mat for the system that helps reduce the sound coming from the machine.

3) A training video that show you how to train your pet if they are anxious about the noise.

Is it just for dogs?

It is recommended to be used on dogs (+20 lbs) and is not designed to work on other animals.

The system will clean an 80 lbs dog with only one tank of water (48 oz), whereas if you wash the same dog in a bath tub, you could use up to 19 gallons of water.

Does it work on long/thick fur? Will it clog?

Yes – it will work on all lengths of fur – short and long – because it has been designed with adjustable spray nozzles to accommodate either lengths of fur.

The tool is also designed to avoid clogs. There is a screen on the tool that keeps hair out of the unit. If hair builds up on the screen, you simply wipe clean. Better solution than clogging your drain.

BarkBath Portable Dog Bathing Features

  • Water and shampoo washes from the skin up while soft suction pulls dirty water and odors away.
  • Nozzles get beneath the fur and down to the skin
  • Dirty water is captured in a seperate tank for a clean you can see.

A Bath without a Splash, Give your dog a bath anywhere, anytime

Fill

Clean Water Tank - No Splash, Less Mess.

The clean water tank is filled with warm tap water for washing your dog. Keeping the water contained, allowing for bath without the splash.

Bathe

Shampoo Reservoir and No Rinse Shampoo.

Bissell's No-Rinse Shampoo goes into the reservoir. The shampoo mixes with the clean water and the tool sprays the water/shampoo solution under the fur onto the skin of the dog. This new bathing system helps reduce the water needed for a traditional dog bath.

Done

Dirty Water Tank - Mess Contained.

Gentle suction from the tool sucks the dirt and odors off your dog. The dirty water goes back into this tank containing the mess.

How the Dog Bathing Tool Works

Connect Tool and Add No Rinse Shampoo

The BarkBath tool washes your dog from the skin up, not from the fur down for a more thorough bathing experience. The first time you use your BarkBath you will need to prime the system for 15-20 seconds before connecting the bathing tool. Easy first step and ready to bathe.

Specially Designed Nozzle Goes Beneath the Fur - works on long and short fur

The nozzle goes beneath the fur and sprays warm water and shampoo onto your dog's skin. The nozzle design allows you to easily remove any hair that may build up on the surface of the tool. It's an easier way to manage the hair that sheds during the bathing process and it won't clog the tool or your drain.

Cleaning from the skin up and quick dry time

Water and shampoo wash the skin clean, while a soft suction pulls dirt and debris away into a separate dirty water tank.

What's Included with your Portable BarkBath Dog Bathing System

BarkBath Portable Dog Bathing Unit

Portable bathing system allows you to bathe your pet practically anywhere and anytime with virtually no mess.

No Rinse Shampoo - Fresh and Clean with light mulberry scent

This No Rinse Dog shampoo is designed for the BarkBath Portable Dog Bath System. It contains only the essential ingredients to provide a clean and fresh coat.

Microfiber Mat for Bath Unit

Place this mat under the BarkBath system to help dampen sound. It is also great to catch any water droplets that may come off your dog.

Microfiber cloth for Face & Paws

Use this to clean face and paws for the complete dog bathing experience. It is also great to absorb any residual water that may remain on your dog after the bathing process.

It works!

It works!
It works! I have the Little Green Machine to clean carpets and can see the same idea used to clean dogs here. I was a bit skeptical, but the unit works! I have two dogs weighing 30 and 60 pounds each. They did just fine with their baths. The long hose is a good idea and, though it was a bit twisty, the hose was light and easy to use. The sound the unit makes is not too noisy. My rescue shepherd mix who is normally very skittish wasn’t put off by the sound. I was amazed as he sat and let me wash him. Prior to use, I did put the unit on the floor and let both of my dogs check it out. I then ran the attachment on their backs to get them used to the feel of it. After washing my bigger guy, I refilled the water and let my skittish one have his turn. No water was coming out of the sprayer! Ugh. I checked the connections and the shampoo box. Since I have the Little Green Machine, one problem I’ve encountered is that the mini spray nozzle can get clogged and not release water. It was that. I saw on this unit the feed into the hose from the shampoo unit was stuck. I took it out and sprayed it into the sink until water came out. Then I clicked it back in and it sprayed out. So I was able to wash my little guy. The sprayer was a little leaky during washing when I wasn’t squeezing the sprayer, but it is not a deal breaker. The water can run out quick, but it seems in relation to how much waste water can be collected. All in all, it beats getting them into the tub! I’ll still use a groomer once in a while, but I will offset trips with this machine.

Tried this out almost as soon as I received it. Works awesome, probably the best way to clean your dog. Easier than getting my 75 pound boxer/German shepherd mix into the shower and he absolutely hates the garden hose. He avoids getting wet at all unless its under his terms, jumping in the lake or the irrigation ditches. During the easy setup, I just layed it all out on the floor to let my dog get acclimatized to the different parts. After he sniffed everything out, I brushed him with the spray nozzle so he knew what it felt like. While doing that, I turned the machine on. At first he was super hesitant about the machine, but after going through the motions, he just sat and enjoyed it. I didn’t put a towel down on the floor (old carpeting) just to see how much of a mess it would make. Almost none at all. The carpet was dry. Leaves my dog damp, but not dripping wet. He dried up very quickly, which is great for both of us. He didn’t have the urge to go run out into the yard and roll around all over and get dirty again. He has very short coarse hair, and this did an awesome job of getting down to the skin and getting everything clean. The shampoo worked great, and even after 4 or 5 days, he still smells great and feels great. The barkbath is really quiet, a lot quieter than my vacuum (which my dog runs away from as soon as I drag it out of the closet). I could even have a normal conversation on the phone while using this. The long hose is great. Plenty to move around with and not have to worry about tipping the machine over. I did have to empty the dirty water twice while using, and once when done, but after studying the design, it makes perfect sense. Excited to use this again, and I’m curious to see how well it will work this spring after my dog gets caked in mud running and rolling in the muddy grain fields. Great product, recommending it to all my friends.

Our dog is getting used to it. Much nicer than the hose. Our dog hates the hose to bathe and so do I hate using a hose to bath a dog as I can tell how much they hate that no matter how gentle I had been with it. They seem to find it humiliating. I used to shower a small dog I had years ago and though he liked it, it was quite the chore, with the towel drying, blow dryer, etc. It took a lot of time. The Bark bath is the solution for us with our large dog for quickness of bathing. Right now I can only rate it three stars though I will most likely increase the rating soon as I think he will acclimate fast to it. I already make him his own essential oil insect repellent roll on with fractionated coconut oil that he likes. He finds the Bark Bath VERY LOUD. I was wondering, then I held its wand near my own ear and realized it is very loud even to me, and he is a dog with even more acute hearing. So I wonder can they make future additions quicker. It is not as oud as my Bissel carpet cleaner but it might be to a dog with sensitive hearing. So obviously I can not wash his face with it even though the device itself is very gentle and would otherwise be handy for that. We have only tried it one day and I will use it again today and keep orienting him to it until he is comfortable with a full bath. But it is slow at first as I had to sit there with the Bark bath turned on so he could get used to the noise and even show him it is comfortable by using it on my own arms. He eventually let me comb him with it on, after around an hour, and use the trigger to dispense water and wash and rinse part of his flank. Since it was only the first day I know that since he did that well I will be able to use it to give him full baths with it, probably in less than a week. I was wondering if the shampoo is vegan? The ingredients say it contains parabens, as we are all vegetarian, even the dog. What is the source of the parabens? Is it vegan? The shampoo (Mulberry,) smells very nice, I hope it is vegan. If not I must know what is the safe dilution for Castille soap-to water in the unit so I can make homemade soap while I am waiting for their vegan version and use it in the Bark Bath.
UPDATE-SAME DAY A FEW HOURS LATER:
Already upgraded my review to 4 stars. My dog took his first bark bath, only did not get the bottoms of his back feet but he put out his front paws. It was hot outdoors. I did have to hold him by the collar, but he is powerful, large guard dog type bred. He loved the shampoo scent. I did not rinse it. I wiped his face with the microfiber moistened with shampoo and water and I can tell he is very pleased. Did not take long. I still have water in my tank-just cleaned the dirty out-will add a little more shampoo each day. I like him bathed daily or close to it-and with this I can get it down to under a minute, setting up the unit takes around three minutes-so it is able to be accomplished-FANTASTIC-NO DOG SMELL ON MY DOG!

I gave both of my Fur Babies a bath last night using this product. The first thing I experienced was the sound... similar to a Ruumba, (softer than a louder vacuum but still similar to a vaccum). My dogs were a little hesitant, (One of my dogs runs away from the vacuum, the other nips at it like she's going to "get it" lol)... We gave the nipper a bath first. In the beginning she was a bit concerned as to why we were flipping her in different directions (HAHA) *keep in mind we didn't have to give her a bath in the tub - we gave her one on a towel on our bathroom floor. After about 5 minutes, (if that) she was relaxing to the point of looking like she was getting a little massage. Fast forward to my second dog's bath... He was the most skittish about the sound. Once we got him positioned comfortably, (which was easier with this device than in a tub bc he got to "cling" to his human haha) he really just sat there & wasn't bothered whatsoever by the hose that you use to bathe them with. We filled up the water in the machine before we started their baths of course & only had to re-fill it once in the middle of my second pup's bath. It was very easy to fill up quickly & get right back to giving the rest of the bath. Afterwards there was little-to-no clean up & my babies weren't dripping wet which I LOVED! My tub is still as clean as can be & I folded up the towel after & it wasn't wet at all! To top it all off my puppers smelled GREAT!! I am certain they will become pros at getting a bath with the BARKBATH & im already in love because its LOW MAINTENANCE!

My main complaint is the hard prongs of plastic that stick out from the nozzle on the wand. They hurt my dog. I have to be very careful to hold at an angle other than the one that would be indicated by the configuration of the end. this is where the water comes out so I cant cut/grind it down without ruining it - almost too much water comes out as it is. the handle also leaks some and the in line soap container doesn't work super well. Maybe I need more practice, my dog doesn't think so.
