*UPDATE*
So, we have had this vacuum for well over a year now and it still works beautifully! We havent even had to change the belt yet. With a little bit of maintenance we never had any issues with belts smoking or plastic parts melting. Aside from making sure the level is set high enough for the floor it is on we also clean it once a month, hair and stuff builds up. Now we have only one dog, a pittie girl, and they have exceptionally short hair (less than 1/2") if you have dogs that have longer hair then maintenance on the vacuum should probably be more often. We also have 7 Budgies in an extra, extra large aviary and are fixing to take in a pair of cat siblings. For us right now, a wipe down of everything inside and out with clorox wipes works great, including wiping where the belt is as pet dander/hair and bird dust/feathers builds up. We absolutely LOVE this vacuum cleaner, and use it daily. It has made a huge difference if the speed of our daily cleaning routine as it is so much more thorough than a broom and dust pan on the hardwood and switches to rugs and back again seamlessly. It has cut down on the frequency of mopping as well as taken hours off of time on the floors in general each month. We love the side brushes that grab stuff along the baseboards, and I have recommended this vacuum to a few people over the past year. So happy we took a chance on this vacuum!

I admit I'm probably a bit paranoid after reading so many reviews about smoking vacuum's and melted belts. The only thing I noticed was that on setting 1 and 2 both it seems to put pressure on the brush and did sound like it wasn't running completely smooth on our rugs (on the right settings all vacuums should have a continues, smooth sound, if it sounds jerky or rough it's probably set too low to the floor causing friction which causes heat), and my rugs are not even close to being plush. It sounds like it should as long as its kept on lvl 3 and it still works great on the hardwood on lvl 3 so I am just keeping it there. No melting here yet, I am hoping that issue is just a combination of too much pet hair and being set to low to the ground creating extra friction. I will be checking the belt regularly though just in case. If I end up having any issues I will update my review, but for now we absolutely love this vacuum! Its the first one I've bought in almost 20years, my other vacuum is a Kirby Sentria I bought back in 2005 and it still works great, but its really overkill in this house as we have hardwood floors with just a couple of areas rugs. When I bought it I lived in a house that had full carpet and as I'm allergic to dust it was a must have. I will be retiring it to storage for now though. I am enjoying how light weight and simple this one is and hope to have it a long time! It has excellent suction for its price range and is so easy to use and switch back and forth between the hose and floor head. I love the retracting cord, and the fact thats its bagless. I looked at the other versions of this vacuum, with the swivel tilt and stuff, but decided that it wasn't worth the extra money to me for that feature since I'm not used to a vacuum that does that anyway. So I'm not missing anything. This one was on sale for a great price when I got it so I was able to get it with the Febreeze filter and extra belts for less than the other model costs on its own. So hopefully we should be set for a while with the exception of getting more of those filters when needed. It makes everything smell amazing while using the vacuum and lasts for a while after. Overall, we are very happy with this vacuum so far and hopefully won't have any issues with it.

Great little machine. A little messy to dump. Cord storage is not great.
Update: I've had this a little over a year. I vacuum once a week, a 2 person house with one old dog. The unit still works great. The biggest issue is dumping - this is for pets and it picks up dirt and dog hair great, but when it's time to dump I have to stick my hand up inside to get the part that is wrapped around the filter. I clean it thoroughly after each use, so it is not build-up. It's just messy, and my cordless Shark and my hand-held DustDevil are built the same way - so it's likely some engineer who doesn't actually ever use a vacuum in real life designed it.The cord thing is annoying and I won't get another rewinding cord. I usually just gather it up and hook it over the handle to store in the closet instead of retracting it in the machine. It's easy to retract, but a pain to pull it all back out again next time you want to use it.Original post:This has powerful suction - even though I'm used to a lot of dog hair every week, this seems to get even more of it picked up. The innards are easy to take out and clean periodically - I just rinsed out the dirt collector after having it a couple months. The green inner section comes out without tools, which makes it 100% easier than my old one.It is light weight - which makes me a little concerned about how well it will hold up with my typical bull-in-china-shop attitude about cleaning. I love the cord rewind, I hope it keeps working well.The only significant negative is that you really should extend the cord COMPLETELY when you vacuum or the part left inside gets really hot. I pulled mine out partway, vacuumed a small room, then pulled it out further to get the hallway and the cord I pulled was extremely hot from engine heat buildup. Additionally there is not a cord clip you can attach to the handle to keep it out of your way while using the machine, so it practically takes two hands to run this.
