4

Pure Sine-wave Inverter

A battery’s sine-wave inverter turns its direct current (DC) power into alternating current (AC) power, which is needed to power most devices. It provides cleaner current for your devices and prevents crashes in computers, reduces noises in fans and produces electrical waveforms as clear and smooth as the AC power coming out of any wall outlet. Modified sine-wave (MSW) inverters are generally less expensive but produce choppier waveforms, which will cause inconsistent speeds, heat buildup, or damage to appliances.

that one texas winter..
I have always considered myself a bit of a prepper. I have stores of food, medicine, and multiple power banks. Many of you probably heard about the wild texas winter this year and how some of us lost power for a week in below freezing temps. Well, unfortunately that happened to my house. out of power four days straight with temps reaching down to single digits. Fortunately I had a big blue power bank that was solar chargeable so we could keep cellphones running but it wasnt large enough for a normal a/c device. My mom has sleep apnea, the cpap has to run. the battery backup for the cpap ran for a night before dying. One of my other power banks made it the same. but on night three, there was no more power to use. I say all this because not all power banks are made with the same quality, My others *should* have lasted more than they did. So on discussion of quality and longevity, bigblue has my vote. the smaller solar powerbank recharged each day and kept phones and bluetooth speakers up and running. It was a big blessing music and news can be oddly comforting in a stressful situation. I bought this one shortly after all that settled. -its a bigger power bank, itll hold charge a lot longer. it'll charge phones tons of times but it will run something like say.. a cpap for 3-4 nights pretty easily. -it includes a wall charger AND a car charger so if it did die, you could charge it off your car and keep an important medical device able to run then. -you can buy a solar charger for it from bigblue, and I will because solar energy became the only energy during our wild little snow storm (seriously though, just do it. if your buying a power bank in case of emergency, finish the thought and get the charger in case of emergency). This device is not super heavy, but its heavier than some others of its size. It has a lot of output options and a built in lantern. the lantern could easily function as a signaling device as well. I would personally recommend getting separate lanterns and not wasting any of the battery life from this on lighting given that this can power things batteries cant and batteries can power lanterns all day.

I'd needed this due to two power outtages within a week. Also because of final exams which last 3 hours long on a computer. Took about 4.5/5 hours to full charge through wall outlet and it came delivered at approximately 50% charged already. Powered up router and laptop. Used it for my blender, Table lamps and cell phone no problem. The value of this portable lightweight solar capable generator is astounding!!! Four AC outlets, 4 DC inputs, 4 USB ports with 1 being a C-type and car port including large flash light panel with accompanying on/off buttons for those sections makes this highly valuable! Now with only 300 watts you're not going to power up your home refrigerator, stove and microwave but for lesser watt items the Big Blue delivers. I'd almost thought about sending it back for a different unit with more watts such as 500 or 1000, but you'll get less AC outlets, less USB ports and DC inputs and probable lack of a flashlight with a higher price tag. So that's the tradeoff. But the beauty is that you can keep this Big Blue generator as a secondary unit and run it for small items and purchase a different brand with more watts and still save money short term and the long run. Would be great if Big Blue had available units with more wattage capability and similar functions/options. In essence this suited my immediate needs.
P.S. I did try this on a small portable heater and it turned on, but didn't generate heat. Found out the heater needed more wattage power. Also tried a slow cooker and portable electric grill, but higher wattage was needed for them to work. Also bought a 63 watt solar panel from Big Blue but have yet to try it.
    May 17, 2021 EDIT.
Works with my old tube 32' TV and newer model flat screen 32' TV/DVD combo as well.

***update 4*** Ten months of regular use and it seems to be holding up fine. I only use it to charge my cell phone and one backup charge lasts three weeks. Every time we get a storm or high wind warning, I plug it in just in case we lose power. Otherwise I let the battery discharge before recharging it.
The first thing I noticed was it is a lot lighter than my Durrecell 600 back up power supply that finally crapped out after over 10 years. Unfortunately, the Big Blue display doesn't tell you how many watts your devices are pulling or what percentage of battery is left. It also lacks the air compressor on my Durrecell 300 or the radio and clock on my Durrecell 600. The big blue came half way charged so first thing I plugged it in over night to household current.

Update: I plugged in my phone and tablet intermittently at 4:45pm while one was being used, the other was charging. At 10pm the battery back up was still showing four bars. Over night I charged my tablet when it was off. My phone was off also. I woke up at 7am and both phone and tablet were fully charged. The odd thing is the battery backup is still showing four bars after charging my gradgets that were in regular use with the internet. I plugged in the battery backup to Household current and it it not showing that it needs any charging. Either something is wrong with the battery indicator on the Big Blue or this charger can work for a very long time on one charge when only powering usb gadgets.

Update two: I don't have an easily accessible wall plug by my bed, so I have been charging my phone or tablet overnight, using the Big Blue. The Big Blue shuts off after the gadget is charged. After ten days of overnight use, the battery charge level still shows a full charge. This is a great solution to not having an outlet so I can keep all my gadgets charged.

    Update three
After two weeks of using it nightly to charge my gadgets, all the bars are still showing. I think that the battery indicator light is broken. I have charged it all day and it doesn't look like the battery indicator light has moved at all. The charger works, but there is no way of knowing how long it will last and when it should be recharged. I am thinking about taking away a star for that, because for a $200 charger the indicator light should work.
