In terms of hardware, this is the best as well as biggest picture frame we've ever owned, and believe it or not, it's not even their biggest offering. This is next level stuff, not comparable to the plethora of unknown 10 inch digital frames in the market. It is also by Netgear, a well known brand. However, the app is not intuitive at all. It's not impossible to get used. Someone who is used to tech, like me, will fiddle around with it and eventually get it. But if you're giving this as a gift to your parents or aunties? You better be there to set it up for them, and walk them through. So they decided to make this gesture base instead of touchscreen, I guess to keep your screen free of fingerprints. But gestures require a knack, so it will be hit or miss with friends and family trying to do the gesturing. But for the owner, it's a knack that you an easily master. There are basically 2 gesture sensor locations. If it's in landscape position like ours, then they'll be in the middle of the top frame, and in the middle of the left frame. I have a picture illustrating this. The palm of your hands should be facing yourself, and the back of the hand toward the frame, gesture up and down at a pretty good speed, and be as close to the frame as possible without touching it. That's why I say this is a knack only owners will master. Friends who try it will be less aggressive because they don't want to knock over your frame, so their hands won't come as close to the frame. So it'll be hit or miss for them. For owners who are used to it, response rate can be 100%. The Meural app is not intuitive. For example, you have an UPLOAD button that will have access to your phone's default CAMERA folder. Once you make your selections, you hit SEND. In the Meural app, your uploaded photos will be found under YOUR LIBRARY, and at the top under RECENTS. If you browse your YOUR LIBRARY and view the pictures you just SENT, it will prompt you to SEND again. Which is confusing. Because I've already uploaded the pictures, why do I need to hit SEND again? It should be PLAY. So for whatever reason, it likes to use the word SEND. You'll be doing a lot of sending. LOL! It's just like Amazon's photo app, Google or iPhone, there is a learning curve that is not impossible to understand. Lastly, it seems to be a ploy to make money off of premium art pictures via membership or one time purchase prices. Like in-app purchase in games, you have in-app purchases in Meural for premium photos. They have free pictures labeled SAMPLES. Here is a big tip, DO NOT hit send. I realize once you stop viewing the SAMPLES, and switch to your own family photos, those SAMPLES are gone. They are not in YOUR LIBRARY. You have to go look for them again in their picture store. What what you should do is hit FAVORITE. This way it will stay in YOUR LIBRARY under Favorites, and you don't have to go searching for it again. I like it a lot, it's next level stuff in digital photo frames, but the decision to go with gesture is interesting. Maybe Gesturing is more higher end than Touching? LOL? It's like they're trying to drive that point home that they are in another league. Why not give us the option of touchscreen too with gesturing? People are giving bad reviews, but I think those are impatient people. Like I said this is no different than Google photos, Amazon, or iPhone, there is a learning curve. I will take 1 star off for the app being counter intuitive, which could make non-tech people frustrated.
