First of all, it came with all of the right pieces, and some spares, which is great. (I have purchased many items that required assembly, and which have been missing an essential part, so I have learned the hard way to always do an inventory of all pieces before starting.) The shelf material is made of a fabric that seems like it will be easy to wipe clean and the connector poles are made of metal, which is good. The package also includes a pair of gloves (I didn't understand why they were included at first, but more on that below) and a little wooden mallet.
To avoid confusing myself, I sorted all pieces and then used post it notes to label them all. I also labeled each of the shelves as I assembled them for the same reason. The instructions were super easy to follow but I wanted to be sure I remembered which shelf was which because it's pretty important once you start snapping the whole thing together at the end. I didn't use the gloves that were included because I hate working in gloves, but they were included because the ends of the metal bars are quite sharp. Full disclosure: I just used my hoodie sleeves pulled over my hand when I was pushing on the ends of the bars so I didn't cut myself. The mallet was only used for the final step—knocking the little plastic caps into place on the top of the shelf.
My only complaints are that 1.) These little plastic end caps were the most challenging part of the whole process because the opening of some of the metal poles are not quite uniform so I had some trouble getting the caps to fit into a few of them. (My husband's big, strong hands to the rescue!!) and 2.) The side pockets, which I was going to use for my flip flops and flats, are way too shallow for size 9 shoes. Smaller-footed folks might have an easier time with this part. Instead, I will be using these pockets for clutch purses and travel accessories (luggage belts, etc).
All told, I am very happy with this product. It holds all of the shoes I need it to, and then some (even after I put the flats on the shelves instead of in the pockets) and the fabric shelving material is pulled taught enough that my shoes stand up and don't fall over. The tallest shelf on the bottom holds two pairs of tall riding boots and the second tallest shelf holds my two pairs of mid-calf height boots perfectly. I might even buy one more of these to replace another shoe shelf I have in a different room.
