- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2025Style: Green LED Flying DutchmanVerified PurchaseFantastic value and very attractive end result. However, the thin foamcore does make the build very challenging, especially when leverage is limited in inserting tabs. In particular, the complex rigging and difficult angles resulted in many bent pieces of "rope" and "netting." Although glue is technically not needed, some of the sticker pieces needed me to use a glue gun (super glue would likely work too). Not sure if my design differed, but the battery comparment and switch in the stand were relatively easy to access. It's also a great platform to kitbash and customize.
I'm not sure, but I think the scale is about 1:100. I picked this up to try to incorporate in TTRPG. I included some pictures of 25 to 32 mm minitaures. It's a bit small, especially compared with the cannons and stairs. But it still works, or would be perfect for halfling or gnome sized ship. I'm likely going to remove the masts, spars and rigging for ease of play. Or refit the masts for magnets.
Some tips: For poor leverage situations, squeezing the tabs before trying to insert was helpful. The numbers on the parts are usually on the bottom or hidden when put together. An exacto knife or a small precison screwdriver helps. It's very time consuming, but using a dark marker to color the exposed edges can improve the appearance. If you have time, replace the rigging ropes with black thread or twine.

Size wise it’s massive bigger than I thought. Def keep away from kids. 12 years or older can put this together

- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2025Style: Green LED Flying DutchmanVerified PurchaseMy 9 yr old son completed this almost entirely by himself. It took a long time but it held his interest. There was one or two pieces we needed to glue to ensure it would stay in place. Lights are pretty awesome.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2023I bought Queen Anne's Revenge and The Flying Dutchman. Each one took about 12 hours to do. First review is on Queen Anne's Revenge since I can't do separate reviews.
I felt like most of the time was spent popping out all the extra pieces which I had a huge pile of. For the most part it was fairly easy and the material was quite durable. I did run into some issues.
Sometimes popping out the pieces ripped the paper even if I was being careful. It was usually inside pieces where it wasn't noticed.
The cannons sometimes fell off in certain areas which became frustrating. I had to glue one in place just so I could put the side on.
One time I misread the directions and part needed. I popped out the piece fairly easy and realized it was supposed to be connected to another. It wasn't supposed to be two pieces but one big piece and I hadn't even realized I broke it with how easy it came out. Thankfully it was easy to attach and not noticeable.
The pieces for the lights on the back of the ship didn't stay closed. I tried regular glue in the slots but it still came undone. I got tired of dealing with it so I used a small piece of tape.
Some pieces were hard to bend and I was afraid of breaking. They also didn't always connect together correctly. Sometimes pieces bent when they weren't supposed to which left a crease. None were really noticeable though.
There's pretty much no way to change the batteries without taking off pieces. Also not easiest to turn on and off. The light strings were a bit too long as well.
On the bottom floor piece there was a hole from a piece that was popped out. I don't believe I ever had anything to go into it. I remember looking at the instructions thinking I missed something but it wasn't even shown on the drawing. Not sure what happened there but definitely not noticed either.
As for the instructions, it was pretty easy to understand though at times I had to really look at the drawings to make sure things were right and nothing was missing from a previous step. I do wish it better explained if the number side was supposed to be in or not. I did usually put it inside unless it was obvious it wasn't supposed to. Good news is that if you put a piece wrong it was usually easy to take apart.
I somehow completely missed a couple of things which was in the removable area. I was able to put those pieces in with tweezers. That removable area was kind of a pain though. It's the area I had issues with cannons falling out.
Overall I enjoyed putting it together. I was surprised how I didn't break it especially when I was trying to put in pieces. The pieces do stay together pretty well once in place.
Flying Dutchman
I found this one a bit easier to do than the other ship. I did have some issues with it as well.
I had problems with the bottom pieces connecting. One part I had to put a few pieces together before connecting it to the rest of the ship. Otherwise it left a huge gap.
A few other places I had to do differently to connect as well. Some areas never quite fit together or the connecting pieces popped out.
Had some issues with popping out pieces where it tore the design. One piece ripped badly as in half of it. Thankfully it was a small piece that could be hidden. Ended up ripping a slight spot in a sail too. Be really careful with those.
Near the end, I felt like instructions became cluttered. I wasn't sure where some pieces went and had to change them around later on after figuring out which piece went where.
The sticker pieces were hard to peel at times. Also two of the stickers are labeled wrong. The middle front pieces are switched. Realized when I got to other side that one didn't match design either. Also feel like these should've been done at same time and not later on.
I gotta say the pop out pieces were pretty good at blending in. A few different times I was trying to figure out where a piece went before realizing I didn't pop out the piece. Then there were the netting pieces that popped out which wasn't even shown to be like that. It made partial holes but doesn't look bad.
This ship was my favorite of the two. It can easily be turned on and off unlike the other.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2025Style: Green LED Flying DutchmanVerified PurchaseI love all building sets. If I can put it together I will like it. This one was a blast. Even just punching out all the pieces from the main board was fun for me. I highly recommend. It takes time to build and is truly a bang for your buck compared to other building sets. You will need patience to make sure that you are correctly assembling and it says no glue needed but I certainly added some hot glue here and there just to beef up the structure. Its a little tricky so I wouldn't really recommend it for children and its definitely more advanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful rendition
Not too difficult to assemble (in other words, not impossible) but does provide some of a challenge for those who seek one. The lighting part is a bit tricky. Came out beautiful and is a very good rendition of the real thing which I have seen in person. Makes for a great souvenir for someone who has been to Barcelona and visited the Sagrada Familia or for someone with aspirations to some day go visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bello, divertente ma delicato
Colpa mia. Sto pensando di stamparli 3d.
