At least when hooked up to the computer to register and download updates for the first time it shows up as a START 50. When being looked at in your own personal My Drive supplied by TomTom it shows up as a 50. I am going to return this and buy from TomTom direct.

The 3D map display is greatly improved. It is easier to follow while driving, especially since zooming out provides a broader area. Syncing the device with the Route Planner on MyDrive Connect is amazing. Working online is easier and syncing keeps your device instantly updated. Scrolling on the device using touch screen is activated, no need to arrow down one line at a time. Too many device enhancements to list including displays, on screen information, operating system functionality, and simplified menu access. GPS coordinate display for map location has been deleted, but using MyDrive Connect to display any favorite shows the GPS coordinates in the address line of your web browser. Search is combined with Drive to on the device menu, but that is not indicated in the Drive To icon description. Both issues will likely be addressed in future device software updates. For now, the information I just mentioned easily resolves both of the only issues I found with this device. This is truly a must have product. It goes without saying that outstanding product support for 5 years is unheard of and is provided. Lifetime maps and lifetime traffic included in the purchase price. You can't do better than this product.

I like the features as it has more features than the Garmin, does all that the Garmin does and more. I had a cheaper model Garmin. I purchased a better model of the Tom Tom but not the most expensive so I cannot really compare models. My garmin kept quitting on me after a year or so so I switched to a Tom Tom. It has a learning curve but once you figure it out it is the same as a Garmin. I do not like the mount but am purchasing a dashboard mount. The mounting system is difficult to place on your window. I liked the Garmin mount better but it fell off too. I am very dependent upon a GPS so I am hoping this one keeps working for me and I do like the Settings features of this Garmin. I also obtained with traffic and road closings so I am hoping that works.

I got this GPS for my delivery job even through our company phones have GPS. For me the problem has to do with is having to look down at a small screen with a turn coming just 5ft away. this was nerve racking and doesn't make for safe driving. This Tom-tom allows me to see the turn coming without having to break my neck or worst. it can be mounted on the window or dash broad at eye level.

In short it's a simple GPS with a big screen. Tom-tom's interface has always been easy to use especially when on the move. The Icons and text are big and easy to read and understand though I will admit, the touch screen does lagged compared to the ones on a smart phone especially when "typing" in an address. If you have a pen or stylist it helps with this and once the address is entered, you're off on the road. I would recommend you buy a 4gb micro SD Card. This provides more storage for maps and voices but mostly it will speeds up the GPS immensely.

If you do regular routes like I do, you can program those stops so that you don't have to keep selecting them after you finish one. On that note however, as with any GPS's, it's not perfect and there will be times where it will direct you to roads that are either blocked, one ways, under construction, or any not there at all. Highways are always under construction so do pay attention to the signs and detours that are provided. Another issue is the "Fastest Route Debate" which I often find myself fighting with it on. A good example of this is in small towns where it will have insist on cutting through neighborhoods in order to get to a main road when really you can stay on the main roads and get there just as quick or quicker depending on traffic. You don't have to get the traffic receiver for the GPS to work but if your area is always jammed with traffic it will help you navigate around them.

Truth of the matter is that todays Smart phones do this GPS's job a lot better and are more accurate in traffic conditions, road changes, and even where the cops are. But all those features use data and battery which if either one of those runs out, you could find yourself lost and having to make a VERY long drive back home. So if you want to save battery and data and have a big screen to let you know when the turns and exits are coming, get Tom-tom

Bought this for a 2800 mile road trip, it works great, the traffic part seems to work only near big cities, but that was as expected. It did a great job routing me around traffic in the Tacoma and Seattle area. Does a good job giving a warning about upcoming turns or exits. The only time it let me down was when the exit was from the HOV lane, it didn't tell me to be in the HOV lane, by the time I realized that it was too late, but it quickly rerouted me using the next exit. I also used it to find hotels, gas stations and restaurants along the route. It was very nice not to have the phone tied up doing this and sucking up my data plan in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars A working GPS
Reviewed in Canada on January 18, 2019
Ordered the GPS, arrived a day ahead of schedule. Box had everything it was supposed to have and the unit had enough battery power to start right up out of the box. The first thing I did was hook it up to my TomTom account for updates, which took a number of hours. New software and map updates were installed, after which the unit was fully charged and tested for functionality. Features I love is the big screen, the right brightness and control of it as well as the amount of screen use for each function. It takes getting used to as the interaction with the GPS is different from my other older model, but that is called progress. After reading the manual and tapping away on the GPS I was quickly able to create routes, store routes and modify routes as well as search for POIs by name and category. The ability to create a route on your laptop and send it to the GPS via USB is a great feature in addition to being able to create my own POIs and mark points along the way. I am not sure who still navigates to a LAT and LONG so I do not see the usefulness of that for my purposes, but it is there for you.

The mount is basic as they are with all other GPS units and it sticks relatively well on clean glass or the mounting disk. Took a bit to figure out I could swap the mounting ball for a dash mount. The on-line downloadable manual is actually pretty good. But you have to read it first. Charging was effortless and quick. No complaints so far. 5 stars for delivery and quality, 4 for battery life and ease of use. 3 only for Touch screen because with a long route and way points the scrolling function seems to get a little stuttered. i do like the double tap to zoom, however, the long tap to access menus sometimes refuses to cooperate. In short, the touch screen could still use some improvement or the underlying processors need some upgrading.

      Overall, good unit, reasonably priced.

I have had a Tom Tom in the past but I became obsolete, so I purchased a Garmin and hated it, them I purchased a different brand much cheaper but bigger screen and loved the screen but it sent me in circles, finally gave up and went back to the Tom Tom...so much easier to use and pretty accurate, very reliable. Actually this one is more user friendly then my old one. I'll stick with the Tom Tom from here on
