Product Description

Product Description

Sugru Original Formula is the world’s first moldable glue that sets strong by turning into silicone rubber. It's specifically designed to bond permanently to almost anything including ceramics, metal, glass, wood, plaster, stone, most plastics, some fabrics and even flexible materials. It’s easy to use. Mold it like play-dough into any shape or space you want to fill. You have 30 minutes to fix, bond, make, seal, mount, hang and customize – enough time to reposition and make it perfect. In 24 hours, it cures into a strong and durable, flexible silicone rubber that stays stuck.

From the Manufacturer

What is Sugru?

Stick it, shape it, it turns into rubber. It’s that easy! Its unique formulation ensures that it will adhere strongly and securely across many surfaces and environments, from the freezer to a steamy shower and from the home to the great outdoors.

How does Sugru work?

Stick it, shape it, it turns into rubber. It’s that easy! Its unique formulation ensures that it will adhere strongly and securely across many surfaces and environments, from the freezer to a steamy shower and from the home to the great outdoors.

Stick it.

Sugru sticks permanently to lots of stuff like ceramics, glass, metal, wood, and most plastics and fabrics. That's exciting because it makes it very versatile, but you can also use Sugru to bond unusual combinations of materials together.

Shape it.

It's time to build, seal, fix, create, and stick things together. Mould Sugru with your hands and shape it the way you need - you have 30 minutes to get the job done.

It turns into rubber.

Give it 24 hours : Sugru turns into a durable, flexible silicone rubber that stays stuck (unless you remove it). Allow longer for pieces that are more than 3-5mm thick. Top tip: to speed up cure time place your project somewhere warm.

Sugru is now approved by Good Housekeeping Institute!

We are really proud of our endorsement as it means Sugru has passed rigorous consumer quality tests devised and carried out by the Good Housekeeping team!

About the Startup

Describe your product in 3 words.

I can do it in two! Mouldable glue.

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

Everything started when I was studying product design at the Royal College of Art when I realized that I didn't really want to design new stuff - we all have enough. What about all the stuff we already have? There’s so much untapped creativity in the world, everyone has ideas for how things can work better. It's not only designers and manufacturers that know how to improve products, sometimes it’s the users of things who know best! I thought if there was an easy and fun way to change and improve things, then people could find that really useful. It’s turned out to be even more true than I thought!

What makes your product special?

Sugru is designed to make fixing and making easy for anyone. It feels like playdough straight out of the pack, so you can mould it into any shape. Then, it bonds to almost any other material and just by exposing it to air, it turns into a strong durable rubber. So it’s perfect for fixing and hacking everything from gadgets to kitchen appliances to toys. People love that it’s so durable and stays strong and securely bonded anywhere from the freezer to a steamy hot shower, from the home to the great outdoors.

What has been the best part of your startup experience?

Its versatility means Sugru can be used for a huge range of practical, creative and savvy things... 1. To fix that thing - from fraying cables to broken toys, using Sugru will mean you don't have to buy replacements 2. Improvement and personalisation - adding to the grips or handles of existing products is a popular one (eg. a kitchen knife), as well as the endless childproofing solutions 3. Creating something new - whether it’s mimicking an existing product (like Sugru hooks), or a completely unique craft project or prototype, we've seen countless ingenious Sugru hacks for everyday use

I actually decided to use this (along with a thicker 9H glass screen protector) to fill in a crumbling rubber bezel on my old macbook pro, and it's perfect! The bezel is an otherwise irreplaceable part unless you're into major risk taking - Apple will only replace the entire screen assembly, and that's super expensive. But this is perfect to get by on! Obviously it doesn't reach as high as the original bezel - some of which still remains on my laptop - but that's why the screen protector was used as a border. The glue/putty will still provide some space between the actual glass and the rest of the laptop even if the protector removed. And filling in the space between the protector and original bezel will keep what's left of it a little more secure, so it won't fall off as easily.Otherwise, I also used some sugru to reinforce a charging cable, but it did crack after a day.

This stuff is great. So far I have used it for several different fixes (pictures included). The hard plastic tray that holds the grease from our microwave bacon maker is old. It cracked and grease was getting everywhere. Fixed. A plastic lid to a large glass batter bowl touched the hot cooktop. I was able to seal the hole and mold the inside of the lid so it still fits the bowl. We have handmade maple cabinets in our kitchen. I put little “buttons” on one of the cabinet handles and on our refrigerator. It keeps the cabinets from hitting the wall and fridge. I know if you open a pack, whatever is not used right away gets hard and must be thrown away. I used my pistol vac to seal my opened ones in a vacuum bag. I don’t know if it will work but I figured it’s worth a try.

Moldable plastic. Mold in place, then let it dry. I will use it to glue two halves of an automotive key fob together. Family has used it to strengthen their ipad power cords.

The product seems to be a bit pricey, but it does work well and it's easy to use. The package I bought had more colors than I wanted. I would have appreciated a wider selection of color combinations--say black and white (only) in one package.

Fun stuff, but a lot of money for a very small amount of product. The product is intriguing and does a lot of handy things, but it's so expensive that you want to think it through several times before committing this sugar-pack size of moldable glue to a project, because it becomes an investment! Having said that, it really does some interesting things and this kit comes with several little projects you can use the four envelopes of Sugru for - pretty handy stuff! But, as I said, waaaaaaaay overpriced for any kind of regular use. Kind of like a useful novelty toy.

Firstly, this product is very very good when applied properly. And even when applied improperly it’s still not bad. I used this to fix a fraying power cord. The goo sticks to the cord itself and protects it well. I put the goo up onto the charging head just a little bit, and after a couple months of bending the cord, it has come away from the head. It is still very much protecting the cord, it just doesn’t look as neat anymore. I would recommend applying the goo onto more of the head than as shown in my picture, just so it looks nicer. This product works well and only slightly limits the bend-ability of the cord, which it needs to do to protect the cable. I love it and plan to reinforce all my cables with this and recommend it to everyone.

So I was thinking I'd just this to help repair a few things - like playdoh that hardened to be nice and durable. However, I found it is most effective when there is some mechanical bond rather than just a smooth surface for it to stick on. I.e. rolling it around a wire - seems pretty sturdy like that. However, shoe repair - not going to work too well. Most of it came off by the end of the day. Repairing a plastic toy - only if you wrap it around it, etc. So a little disappointing given the price and limited use cases for me.

I use Sugru for two main things: to fix things that are broken, or to prevent any damage to things. The Rebel Tech Kit comes with four packs: red, black, white, and silver gray, along with a handy metal case which you can reuse for storing other things.

— HOW TO USE —
The instructions are simple: Open up a pack and you have about 30 minutes to apply it before it starts curing. The portion is more than enough to use within that time. Depending on what you use it for, you may be able to apply it to 2-3 items.

Once you are done, wipe your fingers clean with some toilet paper (that's what the instructions say), and then a regular hand wash. You want to make sure you clean with the toilet paper first because you don't want to wipe this off on nice towels and have it cure on there. Finally, don't touch the Sugru for 24 hours.

*** TIP ***
If you use this on charging cables, I recommend hanging your cable connected to something heavy (or whatever it's supposed to charge, like a phone/device) and let gravity cure it in a straight line.

— THINGS TO USE IT ON —
- Charging cable ends to prevent bends
- Putting broken things back together
- Patching up backpacks
- Additional support for securing hooks on walls/ceilings
- Adding corner bumpers on a Kindle case so it doesn't wear down as fast

— SUMMARY —
Sugry is a handy versatile invention that can be used for many things. You might just order more to use it on things around the house. Recommended.

This product is AMAZING. I'm telling you if you got wires that need repair, this is all you need. I will offer one warning, however, if you live in a house with pets, use this product in the office if you don't want dust and pet hair to get in your finished product. What can I say, it's like a clay and anything and everything will stick to it. They offer a 3D printer mold program to use for frayed wires. It looks awesome and would cut down on dust getting on it. I wish they'd sell this thing as an accessory instead of a mold program because well, most folks don't have 3D printers. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. So because with the white color. Everything that sticks to it will show. Still a phenomenal product, even with my cat's hair in it. LOL!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little starter kit - Sugru NEEDS to label packs with (g) weights though
Reviewed in Canada on July 9, 2019
This comes with branded tin, branded guitar pick (for smoothing and leveling off), and four (4) individual packets with different colours. The packets seem way smaller than the sugru I've bought before - these weigh 6 g unopened each. That's about a 20 mm bouncy ball's worth. So it's a good starting kit, but if you already know what you need this probably won't be enough. I think a normal packet has closer to 10 g but I can't be sure since I've used all my other packs. For one envelope you'll probably get about 3 cable ends covered and fixed.

The little booklet is mostly marketing fluff, although with some pretty cool ideas. This kit would make a really good present for a teen or adult who likes to fix things on their own., or if they're high-tech. Just know it's a very limited amount of material and they'll likely have to get more.

Heard about this through a colleague, already used half my first tin repairing a stripped charger cable and fixing a loose panel in my screen door. My only complaint so far is that I wish the starter kit had a couple more pieces in it, but it's great stuff, the kind of product you use a couple times and are then determined never to run out of.
