    Lego 11008: Classic: Bricks and Houses
    The Lego Classic Bricks and Houses set is more open ended than themed sets. The included instructions give steps for a small house, a castle, an igloo, a windmill, a family home, and a lighthouse. You can build all of these at the same time, without having to deconstruct anything. This set reminded me of when I was a kid, taking out my bucket of Legos and just building whatever came to mind, instead of following the instructions to a specific set. This set includes a good assortment of colors and pieces, and hopefully the different building techniques and different house styles will inspire kids to try out their own house, or whatever else they want to build. That’s the aim of the Lego Classic line, to inspire kids to make their own creations, and I think the pieces here are good for that. It could make a good gift for the beginning Lego builder, especially if you’re unsure of what theme they might prefer, or be a good complement to other Lego Classic sets.

      Purchased 2 years ago, to have extra pieces to some of the themed sets. Love it, the 270 pieces are used up quick. These can build the 6 buildings (a family home, a lighthouse, an igloo, a castle, a small house and a windmill) with included instructions, or can really add to the creativity of already owned sets. My then 6 year old 1st grader continues to reach for these pieces. She's now 8, and working on more complicated sets with dad. However, she still loves these basic pieces.

      Priced $16 at time of purchase (2 years ago), and currently $20. Sometimes, it'll discount. Even at $20, it's a great set, since each building is $3-3.50.
