One-of-a-kind Product - I love Sugru - I want more!

I purchased this on a whim in order to fix a busted piece of plastic inside of my OneWheel having used it in the past for shoring up an expensive laptop power adapter cable.

This stuff is really quite amazing. For my usage, I had a plastic threaded rod that snapped in half. It had an aluminum nut attached which was bouncing around in the interior of the controller board. I wanted to simultaneously eliminate the nut and fix the threaded rod (it connected to the power button, so it's pretty necessary!). The Sugru *did not stick* very well to the threaded rod, which was something I had expected but hoped would "get lucky" on. As it turned out, I *did* get lucky. After opening a pack, I smashed a large-ish portion of it along the rod (about 1" length with about half covered). After letting it sit for 24-hours, I had a very solid glob of "what once was goo" holding the rod together and everything in place. Though it didn't adhere directly to the rod very well, that worked out in my favor. With a little careful nudging, I could unscrew the wad of Sugru -- I'd basically made a very long, structurally acceptable ... nut.

Since then, I've used this stuff all over the place.

On the downsides - the 4- rather than 5- star review was given because:

1) It's expensive. You really don't get very much and once you've used it and discovered the strength, you'll want more. I don't know if this stuff is particularly expensive to make or if these folks just know there's nothing else out there that works. Frankly, a dollar a packet is *too much* let alone almost two dollars a packet. There's about enough to shore up two USB cables in each packet. I'd rather the packets have 2-3 times as much at about 1/2 the price, but as there's nothing else comparable to this product, I'm stuck -- and every time I find a use for it I run it through the "is that really worth $2-$4 to improve"?

2) It takes *forever* to cure. It remains as sticky/tacky as it did coming out of the container after several hours. At 12 hours, it's much more solid/less tacky -- really, pretty strong and about what I expected it to be when it was done (about half what the marketing copy implies). However, after 24 hours, it's done and *way* more durable than I expected.

That's stored/cured indoors, low humidity, varying from 65-72 degrees. If you are covering a part and need to set it somewhere, set it on some plastic wrap; it won't stick but you'll also discover that the part touching the plastic wrap is less cured than the rest, as well, so move it around.

The benefit of the added cure time is that it spoils slower; it also dries slowly, which -- as expected -- means that once you've formed it, it cures very smoothly; I noticed no difference between the formed and cured shape. It didn't shrink/wrinkle/otherwise deform while curing which is frequently a problem with glue-like-things that cure rapidly. Whatever chemical reaction is taking place, though, does warm the wad up noticeably but didn't affect the shape.

3) It expires, apparently. I have a few in packets that are from last Christmas. I just used one this weekend. It was as good as the ones I just bought. I read reviews indicating to store it in a fridge and expect it to be worthless after six months but my experience -- storing it in a drawer in my house and forgetting about it -- would suggest it lasts longer than that. I believe they've tweaked the formula a few times, so it might be that I just have a newer formulation than the one that caused the warnings, or the warnings are just wrong. Either way, it worked great at nearly a year with no care taken as to how the things were stored.

On the pros side:

1) Way ... way stronger than I had expected. Stronger than silicone caulk, rips less easily than all of the silicone mold mixes I've used -- this stuff hardens in a manner that it feels like tire rubber -- soft-ish, won't produce sharp edges, but still physically difficult to rip/tear. I haven't done any scientific tests and I'll attest that it is not as strong as some of the epoxies I've worked with but those strong epoxies also harden to a solid plastic consistency and cannot be used in some places where Sugru works well.

2) It worked *better* than the marketing suggested in almost every way -- I have used it to adhere several different kinds of plastics without issue. When it didn't adhere (plastic wrap and things made out of the same material do not adhere well), it cured hard enough that forming it around/over the part resulted in a bond that made the adhesion irrelevant.

Here’s a few: I formed a new hanger for my favorite wall clock that had broken, I made non-slip “feet” for a wonky pottery bowl used for sponges, I fixed a crow figure whose stick feet had broken, I “framed” pictures in double glass, I reattached a handle on an old tin ladle, I made decorative pieces on the handle of my tea kettle that kept slipping- the list goes on and on. Grandma had a little accident and damaged her side view mirror “housing”. She was told it would cost $300 to fix/replace it. I cleaned area, made a ‘template of missing piece (about 2”x4.5”) combined 8 packs of Sugru together, placed between wax paper and rolled out keeping thickness even. I placed a piece of gorilla tape sticky side out on inside of housing then put Sugru patch on attaching to tape and all the jagged edges. Looks great and holding up well!

Yes, you’ve got to allow yourself to work out how best to use it. No, there’s never enough. Yes, you need to always have some in the house. Yes, you will quickly learn how to pace your use of the product. Yes, your fingers will be slightly stained, but it washes off.

And no, it isn’t a magical solution for every possible problem. It cannot fix broken fingernails, for instance, or a broken heart (or maybe it can? Who knows! It’s versatile). I have used it to fix the input cord of my headphones and I’ve used it in an art project where I wanted to keep a model from wobbling in its base.

I have never bought the coloured ones (red, yellow, blue), but I plan to. I figure, if I have coloured Sugrus, I will find uses for them.

I really needed to glue something vertically on a wall and had ordered same day delivery. Local stores only had black, but Amazon had the color that I needed. The delivery came a few hours later, preventing me from driving all over town trying to find white.

However, I was disappointed when I opened the box and found 4 out of the 8 packages was expiring only 5 months later, and the other 4 expires in 7 months. I would have expected at least 1 year expiration.

Unfortunately since I needed to mount my item right away, I couldn’t return them. Based on many research, SUGRU was supposedly a strong but removable alternative to other adhesives. This was the first time I have used SUGRU. It feels like playdo and therefore very easy to work with. Each pack only had a small amount, so I used 2 on my intended item. Since the packs was expiring soon and was so easy to use, I quickly found many other items around the house that could use SUGRU. I Found this product very versatile.

I thought that when SUGRU dries, it would feel more like hard rubber. Instead, it dries hard. Currently, SUGRU is keeping my items up on the walls. Used some to protect pipes from damages due to getting hit, mounted a few more items on the walls, etc. Don’t know how long it will last. But so far, it seems sturdy. I also don’t know how easy it will be to remove. But currently, it served my purposes.
