- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2021***UPDATE*** as of May, 2021....those 6 black "dead pixels" must have been stuck pixels as they are now all gone & have not reappeared.
Upon many hours of article & video reviews & research , This TV is the one I chose after my 10 year old 46" Samsung 1080p backlight had died. Definitely worth the price with the performance & quality to match/rival $2-3k name brand TVs.
I have calibrated it so it looks even better. Surprising the sound is pretty good and loud with Netflix or HBO Max. Picture quality is excellent with streaming 4K content (& Dolby Vision content) as well as when hooked up to PS4, & Sony 4K player (as the few 4Ks I own at the moment look phenomenal with deep blacks, Bright whites, & colors that seem to glow with surrealistic awe, . Love the stand style instead of the older flat or the newer to-the edge- triangle legs.
Wished it had a music tone to let you know the TV has been turned on/off like my previous Samsung, but that is a personal preference nitpick. Would also liked to have the HDMI 2.1.ports instead of 2.0.probably the biggest downside. (but for me still not a dealbreaker for my needs)
My specific TV did have about 6 dead pixels on the lower right part of the screen...BUT 6 out of 8.3 MILLION is not to bad..LOL And only noticeable if your face is literally 6 inches from the screen (and who really watches a 55" that close? LOL) while displaying a white or very bright screen in that area....otherwise in ACTUAL viewing distance it is NOT noticeable at all...even when purposely looking for it. This may have been cause to return/replace it but I personally felt it was not worth it & to be honest completely forgot about it till writing this review, & probably will forget about it again soon after.
ALL in all this is the best quality HD TV I have owned & I have had Vizio's & Samsung's in the past...& I am a Samsung guy, but Samsung's current models in the same price range did not have half the quality nor the features as this.
Obviously there are much higher quality TVs on the market but if you are comfortable & have the finances to spend multi-thousands more, than that is your choice/right. But this TV at it's size, picture quality, features & numerous reviews this was a no brainer for my needs & worth every penny.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2021Size: 65 inVerified Purchase2023 Update:
My assessment of this TV was spot on, but I did not know how accurate I was at the time. I have used this TV just a hair over two years and it is now dead. The power LED flashes on and off. I read up on this and it looks like the main board is failed. A lot of people have this issue online, the general consensus is that Hisense used extremely cheap storage on the main board and the devices fry after two years if you have it connected to the internet. I did not stream direct through my TV, I always used a Fire Stick or something but apparently just having it online and updating apps and the like was enough to hit the limit on read/write cycles on the internal storage and I now have a very big, very heavy, very expensive paperweight. I can fix it and may, but at two years I really should not have to on a TV that really only saw use on weekends.
Original review:
This is my third Hisense TV, the first two were budget models we picked up for bedrooms. I read rave reviews on this display and picked it up for my living room. To be clear, Android TV was a major selling point on this for me. I have either an NVIDIA Shield or a Xiaomi MiBox on every television in the house and we stream everything through the Google platform. I also use Google Assistant speakers in every room of the house. This television appeared to be the perfect device for me and I can't help but feel let down. In regards to the picture, it is great. The display is bright and I have only minor issues there. I have found that when changing from one source to another it sometimes flickers, such as when watching a bright display and then exiting to the Netflix menu. The screen will flicker for a minute or two and then seems to work itself out. I have also noticed that when changing scenes in a movie with Dolby Vision there is a very brief lag when the screen dims itself to match what was on screen. I noticed this but my wife did not. I had no issues hooking up a Dolby Atmos soundbar with ARC. Initial setup of the device was fine with the AndroidTV menu walking me through setup. Everything as expected. I installed my streaming applications and that is where things went south. First up, at the time I set mine up one of the streaming apps did not support Dolby Vision on this TV for some reason. I could plug my Shield into the TV and use Dolby Vision fine but the app installed directly on the TV did not recognize Dolby Vision. This has since been fixed by the company (the one with the mouse logo) but it was a concern when I first set this up and it is not confidence inspiring going forward. My next issue was that the system was very slow, changing between menus and apps had a lag and sometimes when I hit the button on the remote it would produce a sound that it registered but would take five or so seconds to process. I have since performed a factory reset on the device and it is working fine now but I am slowly reinstalling my streaming apps. Whatever hardware they are running the AndroidTV on really lets this display down and a premium device deserves better. I also have issue with the built in Google Assistant. Due to the fact that our soundbar is right in front of the display we often get false triggers where someone says something in a movie but the TV thinks we are summoning for help, even when what was said sounds nothing like "Hey Google". I tried to turn this off in the menu on the TV but even when I select OFF in the menu, it still works and shows ON in the same menu. The TV has a switch on the front to disable this microphone but when that is triggered you get a bunch of red lights on the front of the display to remind you it is off, not something I want to look at while I am watching a movie. I am holding on to this TV and have hopes that a software update could be issued to make it more usable. Right now I am using another streaming device connected to this display most of the time and it defeats the purpose of buying a smart TV.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2021The Hisense U8G is a fantastic TV and for the price its unbeatable. I owned the Samsung Q80T before buying this TV and I know it sounds funny to go from a top name brand to a Hisense but I only did so after my research concluded that this was one of the best 4K TV models to come out in 2021. I needed a TV with Dolby Vision, better brightness and multiple HDMI 2.1 slots things the Q80T doesn't have. So I went with this one totally expecting a good enough picture quality compared to a top name brand like Samsung and I was blown away from the time I turned it on. Believe it or not this Hisense U8G blows away the Q80T in picture quality the black levels are inky black almost OLED quality The brightness and color along with the great local dimming feature brings out HDR content to a superb level. The local dimming feature is so much better than the Q80T it has very minimal to NO blooming something that was really bad with the Q80T. This Tv can easily go for 1500$+. I have my PS5 and Xbox Series X connected to both hdmi 2.1 slots and so far I have only experienced ghosting issues with just my PS5. Reading online about switching the hdmi to 1 or 2 would solve this issue I did so and it worked. My PS5 doesn't show any ghosting when using hdmi 1 or 2. This isnt a big deal at all because if I ever wanted to play something at 120 hz i just need to switch it back to an HDMI 2.1 slot. Note ghosting issues in gaming only happens when playing 60hz content on a HDMI 2.1 slot, 120hz content show no ghosting whatsoever. For the quality of picture I get from this TV I'm more than willing to put up with this slight inconvenience. Hisense is not a cheap name brand this TV is proof of that.
