Constant Disappointment, their Subscription "Service" killed all hope of it ever being useful.

Constant Disappointment, their Subscription "Service" killed all hope of it ever being useful.
Updated: 05/17/2020 - They fixed the app in 2019 so I could actually see date; but now they charge you to look at yesterday even if it is one minute past midnight. seriously.. you can only see water usage current day without being prompted to subscribe.. it will show you total water usage.. but if you click on the water usage to see what hour or anything which it occurred.. you get prompted for a $5.99 a month to see your own data they are monetizing even after paying $200 for the device. I recently became so fed up with the Streamlabs app and their "service" that I went and spent another $200 on a FLUME which also gives me better dashboards, history, alerting, and I also get visibility to my irrigation system. So yeah.. really everything is better. Updated: 11/25/2018 - No data = Useless app. After several months of having this the only notifications I get from it is "Streamlabs has gone offline". I moved my router within 15 feet of the device even to try to resolve this issue and it hasn't helped one bit. I haven' been able to see any of my data for months because you cannot see it via the website as its just a store, support doesn't even both replying to you, the app simply tells you its offline and doesn't show you any data it has collected historically. The app hasn't been updated to be any better, there has been no firmware updates, there is no even email reporting of water usage for when the app goes out, the only thing that has occurred is they have released an API for the data since I bought it. Totally feel like I've wasted $200. Updated: I got it installed after literally spending hours of the application timing out on each step of the setup process (Network, Calibration, etc ) multiple times. I finally figured out by chance if I stepped away for 30 minutes to an hour I could come back and it would let me proceed to the next step of setup that had failed.. but it still took multiple attempts like that to get it initially working. I also tried calling Tech Support a couple of times and sat on hold during this whole process and never got anyone to enter chat or call me back... but it was when I went to go remove the device after finally giving up the following day I gave it one final run and got it setup.. it was extremely frustrating process. Once going then it seemed to work in near real time to show current usage and some basic usage comparisons.. but nothing really detailed like to show by hour last week or jump back in time. When I do bring up the app I do still frequently see "there has been an error, retry". I close the app and it then works as expected.. I haven't had it long enough to compare against the water bill but I will be.. I'd really like to give it 5 stars.. but the setup process has permanently scarred my opinion of this device that I almost returned and the app is minimal but nothing great. Initial Review: Initial impressions are not good and quite disappointing dueing to some very basic design flaws and especially poor iOS Application for setup and horribly bad instructions and very limited support for most of the United States.. First the installation instructions consist of a few photos which are in no particular order and suggest you mount the device and download the app then once you enter the setup within the app after completing registration it asks you to scan the back of the device which is now no longer accessible because you have mounted the device (luckily the same barcode is on the back of the box) and you can scan that without dismounting it.. then this is where the the fun begins.. after joining the device to the network MANY times now the iOS app keeps saying it has trouble accessing the network and about the blue flashing lights.. your options are 1 or 2 blinks or something else.. about a 1/4 of the time I got to the blue blink every 4 seconds.. which according to the something else is EXACTLY what is supposed to be occurring.. (and my phone has a full strong wifi indicator on all 3 of my SSIDs for the router located about 20 feet away) but guess what.. you get to repeat setup again and again and again.. because there is absolutely no option to proceed after that point except repeating the setup. I've now spent over an hour trying to just get it connected to one of my three wireless networks and on each have gotten to the blue blinky light every 4 seconds (what it is supposed to do). in addition with sitting in a chat queue in position 1 for over 30 minutes and more than one call to tech support not get anyone.. at 5pm PST (which they are in GA, USA per the number). After about an hour I gave up.. and 30 minutes after giving up a device showed up on my account but offline.. and no data.. but it also never completed setup where I tell it the size of my pipes or go through any calibration mode which I saw in a video review.. so Im pretty put off on it right now. Another half hour or so later I saw it starting to sometimes appearing online but requiring calibration. So I performed this calibration step again for about another half hour with my water off MANY times and each time it too would say it "couldn't sense" my pipes but per the help the double wave lines were double flashing implying it could sense my pipes.. so I don't know what to think.. I waited another hour and nothing showed up with my attempted to calibrate. So I moved one of my 3 routers even closer (even though I had full signal strength at the location anyway and other sensors in the room work fine) and I cleaned the entire 3 foot section of copper pipe from my water main before it starting T'n off.. I did all of this with the water off.. I originally had it in a vertical (up/down) configuration when re-attempted it still didn't help after cleaning the pipe and re-zip tying it. I then put in horizontal so you can read "Streamlabs" normally and it went through most of the calibration before beginning its normal flakeyness around the time of "flush a toilet or run a tap wide open" after you turn the water main back on.. Well I turned it on and I flushed a 5 gallon per flush toilet I am planning to replace multiple times.. and nothing.. then I opened up a sink right off the water main fully open and let the large wash basin that you could do laundry in and still nothing.. the app is still saying 0gpm.. and when I tried exiting the part of the app thinking maybe it went online.. nope it warned me I'd need to restart this whole recalibration thing AGAIN. So I started pressing random things on the screen out of frustration.. I hit the sun looking thing and it turned orange momentarily and then it said calibration was complete (????) but my flow rate was still 0.0gpm and I had used 0 gallons of water today. It then prompted me to configure alerts and the disappointment continued with such a high level of thresholds... a slow leak is not 0.25gpm for 5 continuous minutes.. that is a serious leak.. not a flood but a serious leak and in the matter of a hour would be enough to destroy cabinetry or soak the carpet / floor of a room.. I had an expectation of of being able to detect lesser leaks vs. something spraying water levels.. the serious leak detection..would definitely be useful if required but the reliability of the connectivity of the device and non even detecting any flow with what was easily 20 gallons of water in a few minutes makes me serious question its value if at all any. I admit I got this to monitor family water use and secondarily leaks as I have other mechanisms.. but it would have been nice to consolidate down to a single 'smart' reliable tool.. this toy is clearly not it. I feel after several hours invested still have gotten no where and I'm giving it until midday tomorrow to get setup or its getting returned as for an "easy setup" $200 "novelty at best" with this level of accuracy and reliability monitoring tool the seamless of joining the device to the network should be the least of my worries.. I'm extremely frustrated with it and I haven't even gotten to actually seeing any data even for a few minutes let alone over time to get a proper assessment of it.. so until I get to actually use it.. it is getting a FAILURE TO LAUNCH 1 STAR Review.

I was constantly crawling the internet for something like this. A few months ago, I came home after work only to realize that the toilet had been running all day long! I have my entire home pretty automated and this was the last missing piece.

I was a little hesitant after reading some of the bad reviews, but I'm glad I decided to try it out. Here are the things I like:

    - Easy installation: To install it, you basically attach it to the surface of a pipe using provided tie wraps. You then plug it into an outlet nearby. You finish the installation on the app which will prompt you to shut off the water main and flush a toilet. This device works by "listening" to the sound of water running through the pipes, so no need to hire a plumber.
    - Modern app and reliable notifications: The app is very modern which shows that this product was not rushed to the market and was tested. The app has historical data on water usage and is table to detect when water is running within a few seconds after a faucet is opened.
    - Alerts, Alerts: You can setup alerts when water has been running for x number of minutes on a pre-defined flow rate (see screenshot). The app also includes a home and away mode switch. Away mode will notify you if water runs for more than 15 seconds. This setting is currently not configurable, so that's what you get.
    - Integration with Alexa: Again this shows that there was work put into software development which is not often the case with some of these gadgets. I am able to tell Alexa to put the sensor in Home or Away mode.
    - Integration with Nest: I don't have nest but I'm planning to get one soon. When using nest, the sensor can detect when no one is Home and turn off away mode automatically.,

    Some things I don't like:
    - While using the app, a message will show up sometimes saying that the water sensor is offline. This is never the case and the message usually goes away after a few seconds.
    - No web interface for monitoring water flow: There's currently no website you can go to see the history of water usage. This is currently limited to the app.

Overall a well made sensor with nothing else that really compares at the moment.

    Updated:
I got it installed after literally spending hours of the application timing out on each step of the setup process (Network, Calibration, etc ) multiple times.

    Initial Review:
Initial impressions are not good and quite disappointing dueing to some very basic design flaws and especially poor iOS Application for setup and horribly bad instructions and very limited support for most of the United States..

Constant Disappointment, their Subscription "Service" killed all hope of it ever being useful.
