    So Far, So Good
My previous TV died and I was sad. It was a Sharp Aquos that I'd had several years but the picture was still outstanding. For its time this TV was ahead of its competition. You'd think things would last forever like they used to but in todays throw away world its toss it in the dumpster and buy new. This is written two weeks into the LG. Not that anyone cares, but I tend to research TV purchases to death. My first big screen I researched and read for five years before I purchased a Pioneer Elite 610 rear projection TV. It was great and when it died I was sad then too. The Sharp took its place and lived up to my expectations. Since I'm a TV-aholic I needed a replacement when the Sharp died. My normal research was shortened a bit and from what I'd read from many sources, the LG seemed to fit my needs. Since we were on the downward phase of Covid (I hope) the US was seeing delivery issues and goods were sometimes in short supply. Local retailers did not have this TV in stock or it was promised within a couple weeks, maybe. So I decided to take a chance on buying through Amazon. It came within four days to my surprise. Delivery was done by Amazon and unpacking and setup was handled by them as well. I must say I was very pleased with the setup. It included bringing it into my home, unpacking, placing the base on the TV and placing it where I wanted. They checked to be sure the TV came on and then removed the packaging. Very professional. Reconnecting my surround system and video controller took me a while, lots of wires to sort out. Once connected to the internet, I stream now, and making some adjustments I was very pleased with the picture quality. There are many settings for video and you could even custom set color if that's your thing. Most people will find the settings supplied will suit their needs quite well. The sound from the LG speakers do amazingly well. I used it for several days with just these speakers and found them easy to hear voice. Since I'm older and listened to a lot of loud music when younger my hearing is not what it used to be. Kids today with their earbuds and headphones should really start to learn sign language now. The other evening I watched LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring. This was not from DVD but from a broadcast over streaming that I'd saved. I was blown away as was my wife by the detail. Especially in the dark scenes where detail can be lost in the shadows. Not on this TV. Subtle details on steps in the mines, details of the Orcs and clothing were all there. And nothing was washed out in the deep darks. Blacks were black, midtones were spot on and highlights of flames or the glint on a sword were all there. If you have 4K content I'm sure you'd be very happy. I'll be watching some of my old DVD's again and see if they have stood the test of time. I've read about people worrying about burn in since OLED's are supposed to be vulnerable to this. I can't imagine this happening unless you have a logo in the corner that doesn't go away. Still I feel you'd have to have it onscreen for hours before you'd see a problem. The TV does have an area in the menu called OLED care. It has something called Pixel Cleaning which is supposed to adjust each pixel to prevent burn in. Also a Screen Move function to move the screen a little at regular intervals for the same prevention. Do they work? Maybe but I'm not going to worry about it. The photo I've added really can't do justice to the actual picture quality but the reflection in the silver cup caught my eye. And speaking of reflections, this TV will show reflections from windows or lights. You can still watch the TV just fine but no TV will kill all reflections from light sources. The room I'm in has room darkening shades so problem solved. I'm sure over time I'll find more features to explore and will watch more 4K content to marvel over. For now I can recommend this TV for anyone that loves a spectacular picture. Is it pricey? Yes, but I've always felt you get what you pay for and I'm hoping this TV will last as long as the last one.

Get one now. Don't worry about the flagship Sony or LG G1 being brighter on a 10% window, can't tell in most cases anyway, certainly not in streaming content. If you own a disc player and physical media that is able to provide a true High Dynamic Range (HDR) Ultra High Definition (UHD) source then you're in for the best viewing experience in 2021.

The 77-inch version is exceptional from edge to edge. Price might be a bit hard to justify, but we weren't using vacation money during the pandemic anyway, right?

The C1 is using the new "Evo" panel with the updated screen technology from 2021. It might only make sense to pay the difference for the gallery G1 series TV if your room was constantly flooded with sunlight and you could really benefit from the small increase.

Some issues have been noted using LG disc players with LG OLED TVs, so sadly I can't recommend sticking with the same brand of Blu Ray player. Paired this with a Pansonic DP-UB420-K Blu Ray Player, a Dolby Atmos receiver and speaker setup. It's better than the theater in almost every way, save for the layers of guilt I experience drenching my own popcorn in theater-levels of butter. Oh, and the cost for all that hardware, no getting around that pocketbook pain either if you're looking to create that experience.

Any negatives about the 77-inch LG C1 involve the home screen in WebOS 6 and the software on that home screen. It seems like I'm being advertised to primarily, then my uses for the TV are slightly deprecated. The internet TV channels barely work, and seem to require some sort of account sign up. This wasn't, and isn't, the same on my Samsung HDR TV from 2019. Advertising and data collection evolution is here to stay.

Go watch the review videos from HDTVTest and Stop the FOMO, then just buy this already. The picture is better than I expected it would be. For the price I had very high expectations. This is the first OLED TV in our house. Makes me want to replace all the LCD units with similar technology. It's a bit elitist to suggest this TV was worth it, but for our household and use, it really seems like a good value and choice.

Our 70” Vizio M-Series LED TV died suddenly after less than 7 years of daily use. I expected more life out of it, but I’d been eyeing an LG OLED for several years and wasn’t going to be able to justify the purchase until the Vizio kicked the dust. So long Vizio, Hello LG 77” OLED C1!

Right away the picture is a vast improvement over any TV we’ve ever owned, however, I quickly learned that I needed to upgrade my HDMI cables before I could access the full power of the TV’s picture quality. The HDMI cable we’ve been using doesn’t support 4K, so that is enroute. It means I get to mount this thing into my wall - again - after I get the new cable and snake it through my wall behind my TV.

Mounting this to my wall was my biggest concern due to the fragility of the screen. I’ve destroyed far less expensive TV’s trying to mount them before, and so was concerned about this one. That concern, however, just helped me to stay super careful through the process, and the TV is far less heavy than our old 70” LED, so mounting it proves to be quite simple.

77” is huge. Exactly what I’d hoped for. It fills up our space above the mantle very well. I could probably have made the 83” fit, but the 77” is perfect for our space.

It’s still to be seen our long term satisfaction, but out of the box, this TV is by far the best TV we’ve ever owned.

Edit: new HDMI cable arrived, and a quick wall dismount, cable snake through my wall to our Apple TV, and back up with the TV, and we are experiencing Dolby Vision in all its wonder. Watched Marvel’s End Game to check out the picture and it was unbelievable. The best picture currently possible! Disney’s Encanto was also completely stunning. Until 8k content is a thing, this TV offers the best viewing experience you can get.
