DIFFERENCES: BAND 5 vs 7 MONITORING & MORE
Screenshots: the Bands' LED/PD arrays; Walking in-Zepp app of a daily 1-mile crisscross walk in my backyard (satellite view can be chosen, too; needs the phone's Bluetooth and cell or Wi-Fi connections plus enabled location service(s)).I posted a Band 5 review and Amazon won't allow one separate to it for the Band 7. So my Band 5 review follows these Band 5 vs Band 7 details. I used the Band 5 all of December, 2022 and then the Band 7 to date. I no longer have the 5, so I rely on my recollections. The physical differences for the two bands is self-evident. The Zepp app is really, really good IMHO.For the fitness/health feature sets and user interface, the Amazfit web site has plenty of info. The FAQs and Support pages are good but you need to really scrape around and dig for the it. There are gobs of online videos for these two bands. The Band 5 user PDF is awful.Presented here are the core components and workings of the two bands' stuff, a blend of Amazfit and searched-for online info and my observations, the later being to the best of my ability.Mobile device integration/sharing/etc, in-watch and in-Zepp Workout apps and Alexa are not discussed with the exception of the screenshot and this:I have observed when using the Walking app in the Band or the Zepp app, BPM is real-time! One might expect the same for the other apps. While the real-time data is recorded in Zepp's Homepage Workout History X-Y chart, the Homepage Heart Rate chart will be for the user selected 1,5, 10 or 30 minute intervals.• BPM & SpO2Band 5: An array of 2 LEDs and 1 PD (photo detector).Band 7: The same, redesigned.• Motion/movementBand 5: 3-axis gyroscopic sensorBand 7: Geomagnetic sensorBand 5 & 7: 3-axis acceleration sensor• Data engine algorithmsBand 5: BioTracker 2Band 7: BioTracker 3• Operating systemBand 5 & 7: Zepp OS•• Band 5 monitoring ••Same as Band 7 but no BPM Activity Detection Feature, I think.I can't recall if the Workout Walking app BPM was real-time.•• Band 7 monitoring ••-BPM, Stress, SpO2: 24 hour-BPM will update at user selected frequencies, when awake: 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes. If set at the higher frequencies, the Activity Detection Feature sets at 1 minute for the duration of the activity. On-the-spot (manual) updates can be taken at any time. Band display of real time BPM display is not available, but real time is confirmed by me for the Workout Walking app.-Stress and SpO2 updates are 5 minutes only.-During sleep, BPM updates every minute, Stress and SpO4 update every 5 minutes.-While awake, on-the-spot (manual) updates can be taken; SpO2 requires up to 30 seconds, Stress needs all of 45 seconds, while keeping the arm at rest (motionless).-While awake, auto-updates will be taken if the arm is at rest (motionless) for five or more minutes and remains so for the 20 and 45 seconds needed.• Other-The 5 is sleek, the 7 is not.-Band 5 watch faces are far more available given its greater market place exposure. Band 7 may catch up in time.-Available Band 7 watch faces seriously lack component customization.-Band 7 replacement and designer bands have to catch up to the overwhelming choices available for the Band 5.-The timeline that defines sleep is fixed at midnight to 8 AM.-Sleep health data is a dubious, universally for all bands and watches across all price points.-The breathing health algorithm is beta as of this writing, but looks promising.• And-The reflectance driven BPM and Sp02 spot-check values match that of my FDA Class II transmittance EMAY EMO-80 pulse-oximeter. Given the near-instant transmittance sensors, today's reflectance sensors, other than being a bit slow, have come a long way for spot-checks.-I wore my Medline WR30M pedometer with each band for a week each and the distance, step count and BPM data matched the Bands' data pretty much spot on.-With 24/7 wear and all monitoring features enabled and daily half-hour use of the Walking in-watch app, my Band 7 battery alerts at the 20% level after 8-9 days (Bluetooth not used but for 1-2/day Zepp syncs). Using "fast" Nokia or RAVPower chargers, it takes 25 minutes to reach 50%. Another 15 to 75% and another 30 to 99% where it takes another 20 minutes to get to 100%. Regardless of the progress values reported, it's been a consistent 90 minutes from 20% to 100%.

This replaces the non-display Halo band. I was using a Casio digital watch and didn't want to look like a complete dork wearing two watches. I lost the Casio when I removed it to reset for standard time change. I figured I'd give this a try since it cost only slightly more than the Casio replacement would have.

I actually preferred the Halo when the subscription ran out. I didn't use the recipes or health hints and giving points for exercise and sleep was less useful than steps or time. These were reintroduced shortly before I lost my watch and I didn't consider it an improvement. Glad to see that there are no optional, for money add-ons on the Amazfit.

Looks like I can comfortably get about three or four days out of the Amazfit although I normally charge every other day. It charges quickly. I'm a light user, basically using it to count sleep and steps as well as using as a watch. Time steps and weather show up on the face of the band. Sleep is listed on app. I seldom change screens and have the simple basic, dark screen to save battery life. I have a separate app that I input steps and exercise converted to calories. I count steps and exercise from research on a university exercise site. This subtracts from a manual calorie counting app. I try to limit myself to 1800 calories a day.

The Amazfit counts fewer calories than my computed figures, the Halo counted many more. I suspect the Halo was computing calories burned from simply being alive as opposed to exercise calories. The sleep counter shows that I'm averaging approximately 8 hours sleep, the Halo showed 7. The Halo was more accurate at measuring actual sleep as opposed to simply being still and horizontal. Trips to the bathroom that showed up as fifteen minutes in Halo show up as only a couple of minutes in Amazfit. No big problem.

The Amazfit is a more accurate pedometer than the Halo which undercounted steps.

On balance I'm very pleased with the Amazfit. I think it's a better buy than the Halo. The range of functions is larger, although I'm not using most of them. Kind of hard to judge a display device with one that's simply a band. I think the Halo looks a bit more expensive than the Amazfit, which is fine because it is. If the Amazfit holds up, I'm happy with it.

UPDATE: LOOKS LIKE I CAN COMFORTABLY GET A FULL WEEK ON ONE BATTERY CHARGE. BECAUSE OF THIS I'M INCREASING RATING FROM FOUR TO FIVE STARS.

After Amazon abruptly discontinued the Halo, I found myself in the market for a Smart band/watch.

I was primarily looking for something that would track steps and heart rate and also provide me with text notifications.

(I'll confess that having additional watch faces and/or the ability to customize watch faces was also important to me - I like being able to put my own spin on things).

I'd love to pickup a Wear OS watch, but they are far too expensive and just not worth their price.
I abhor Apple and would never get the Apple Watch.

I had narrowed my choices down to several of AmazFit's watches around the $100 price point (I was wooed both by their sleak appearance and the offer of voice assistant functionality) or a Samsung Galaxy Gear, when I bumped into this band on sale for less than a quarter of the price.

It has almost all the functionality of those more expensive models but in a simpler looking band.
For the price, I HAD to pick one up, and I am not regretting it at all.

The band was a little tricky to setup, but once setup it works great.
The sensors work well and are intuitive to operate.
The watch face can be customized within the app (don't be alarmed by the "purchase" header on the customization screen, you're not buying anything - I think this is just a translation error).
I get all of my notifications (and unlike on the Halo, I can actually read them all the way through).
The data syncs with Google Fit (my preferred fitness tracking program).

The Alexa integration is awesome. My home is Google Assistant based (not Alexa), but the Alexa Assistant is more than adequate for setting reminders on the go (it's great not to have to pull out my phone to set a reminder to perform a task while out running errands).

Alexa does have a problem listening to JUST my voice on this device. If the TV is going, or if there are a lot of other people talking in the background, then Alexa will try to listen to them as well (and will usually express confusion or otherwise error out). If your surroundings are relatively quiet though, Alexa does great.

In short, this watch does everything that I want / need it to.

I have no regrets for having purchased it instead of the more expensive options.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tracker at a Great Price.
Reviewed in Canada on January 17, 2022
Color: Midnight BlackSize: 1.1 InchesVerified Purchase
I bought this tracker to replace an Honor band 5 thinking that it would be very similar- I was pleasantly surprised. After a week of testing, the accuracy of the band was on-par with the Honor Band 5 (similar retail price when I bought it, now replaced by the Honor band 6), but overall, it was easier to use and had more features (but also had more bugs and small issues). Overall, I slightly preferred the Amazfit due to it's feature set- it's a great tracker with awesome customizability, and the Alexa feature is very convenient (although a bit limited- no music playback or announcements).
      Pros:
      - Almost everything is customizable- what data to show, what shortcuts to have, reminders, what shortcuts you want to have, what's displayed on your watch face, etc.
      - Loaded with features (PAI, Steps, SpO2, HR, Sleep, breathing & stress, alexa, etc.)
      - Reasonably accurate for personal reference
      Cons:
      - Battery life only 5-7 days- enough, but not as advertised
      - No option to quickly reply to notifications
      - Lots of features require Bluetooth connection to phone (GPS, Alexa, etc.)
      - Setup is a bit complicated if you want to customization
      - Can't find option to link with Google Fit
      - Alexa processing and connection a bit slow, sometimes server is to busy to process requests
Starting off with the smartphone app, the Zepp app is a bit complicated, but once you get everything set up, it is surprisingly convenient and easy to use- the customization options allow you to customize almost everything about the band and app to your personal preference. The band itself, much like the app, is also very customizable- from what shortcuts you want to have, to what data is displayed on your watch face, although it did take me a few days to find the option to customize the data displayed on the watch faces (avalible for the 2 pre-loaded watch faces in more>band display>settings). You can also pick from many watch faces in the store. Alexa is also avalible on the band, but the feature set right now is a bit limited- no music playing or announcements. It is very convenient and nice to have for things like simple questions and reminders though. The rest of the band is pretty self explanatory- and reasonably accurate. There are some (nitpicky) flaws though- the battery life is not as advertised, and lots of the functionality (including GPS) relies on having a BT connection to your phone. Overall, it's a great tracker (and great value if priced around $50CAD), and the flaws are excusable because of it's low price- I don't think I'll need a smartwatch unless I need to make calls.
