Excellent emergency radio. The 18650 Li-Ion replaceable batteries was a key feature for me. This unit came with 2 fresh ones that I will be able to test, replace or recharge when needed. This pack gives a significant amount of power (4000mAh compared to the 600mAh of the Kaito 500 for example ).
The batteries came 75% charged and the unit started solar charging right out of the box just with the ambient light.
All features are functioning as expected. The unit is compact and feels solid.
Solar and crank are great additions that feel reassuring in case you would be exposed to very long term outages and, of course, they’ll always be better than nothing.
Nevertheless, don’t have to high expectations with the integrated solar panel.(And i still think it’s a great feature to have)
These small integrated solar panels on all this type of radios (or power banks) have limited capabilities even in the best conditions . You should not count on the solar panel to recharge your unit 100% and whatever amount of charge you’ll manage to capture will take a long time .The realistic way to recharge this type of units via solar is with an external panel.The removable batteries option is a big plus since you can replace them, but also test and charge them in a separate charger.
Cranking is a good extra way of charging for extreme situations (depleted batteries, no spare, no extra power bank, zero sun).
Otherwise this unit can be charged via usb and wall outlet or power bank or (after removing the batteries) with a charger compatible with 18650, for maintenance or when preparing for a coming weather event.
In the front, there are 4 blue leds for state of charge indicator (25/50/75/100%), a red led for charging indicator and a green one when the radio tuning is good.
I’ve tested charging phone, iPad and iPod, all good.
The sound is loud and crisp. Excellent AM/FM/WB reception (Urban area). The lights (Flash and reading) are super bright. The motion sensor feature on the reading light is genius.
The sos alarm seems unnecessary but it’s very loud and works.
The iPad/iPhone adapter is a very clever addition.
I don’t see how you could be completely out of power (ever) with this unit.
On the whole an excellent unit for this price, I recommend.

Best I have ever had
Motion light great , crank great, solar charge great, I hat be broad but everything great about it. I have had this for 7 yrs im a avid outdoor multi day hiking, mountain climbing, ect Has never failed me. I write this review because I'm going to buy my second one with no second guessing running snail is the one. The picture is my old one obviously damaged . The water proof cover for charging ports came off about two years ago ( my fault I pulled to hard after a camping night of adult beverages) . The crank handle broke after my daughter 5 @ the time . Stepped on it after the handle was outstretched. Since the two breaks it has suffers water submerge, rain , attempts of supper glue to reconnect handle ,kicks ,licks, drop so on and I say it will works great only reason I'm buying a new one is because I can't get handle to reconnect after a year lol buy It is great .
